Texas Public School Week - March 4-8
Texas Public School Week
Alkek celebrates Public School Week kicking off a Pancake Breakfast on Monday, March 4th. Different community members will join us as we thank them for the continued support to our district, schools, and most importantly our teachers and students.
Texas Public School Week was established in 1950 by the Masonic Lodges of Texas to recognize contributions made by the state's free system of education. Each year the event has grown and it continues as a meaningful way to showcase the many educational opportunities afforded to the more than four million students attending Texas Public Schools. This year marks the 163rd year of public education in Texas and the 63rd year of the annual Texas Public School Week celebration. Since 1954 school districts and communities across Texas have celebrated the success of public education during Public School Week. Schools are the center of our community and Texas Public School Week is an excellent opportunity for our parents, family, and community members to come together and admire the many opportunities our students are given. A typical day here at Alkek is always filled with imagination, exploration, and new discoveries for our young minds! Let's Celebrate this week!

MISTY GONZALES
Meet Misty!
She has been with BISD for 16 awesome years!
A little about Mrs. Gonzales:
Misty married her spouse, John on August 3rd!
Their Kiddos are:
Max: 25
Alex: 21
Sophia: 5
Noah: 3
Brynn: expected any day!
She is a Leo born on July 24th!
Her favorite hobby outside of school and teaching is working out and traveling!
Misty and her family are furry animal lovers! They have a cat named Leon, and four pups named: Bitty, Bella, Kato, & Aleyah!
Mrs. Gonzales loves to watch all things with Denzel Washington! (I can second that!) and Netflix!
Her favorite holiday is Easter!
Misty's favorite quote or words she tends to live by are:
Follow your Arrow!
When asked if she had a hero, Misty tells us it is her Mom! :)
Misty tells us a little about how she got to where she is today. She says, "I grew up here in Bandera, with very little opportunity, but with the support of my Mom and my husband I was able to work my way through school while I was raising my young boys, and earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. I have acquired supplemental certifications in ESL, Gifted & Talented, and Special Education, as well."
Mrs. Gonzales is most proud of all the relationships she has built with her students over the years!
We love having Mrs. Gonzales as a part of the Alkek Team!
Thanks for all you do, Misty, we appreciate you so much!
Enjoy your spotlight!
