Teen obesity is a huge problem in the United States today. Obesity affects 17% of teens in the United States. There are many things that contribute to teen obesity. Fast food is one responsibility for teen obesity because it’s cheap, unhealthy, and has popular advertisements.
Effects of Teen Obesity
Teen obesity can cause:
- type 2 diabetes
- hypertension for cardiac disease
- sleep apnea
- asthma
- gallbladder disease
- kidney disease
- nerve damage
Pevention
Here are some ways to prevent teen obesity. Some ways to prevent from becoming obese are by:
- eating three meals at regular times, that have lots of whole grains, legumes, fresh fruit, and vegetables
- getting rid of tempting junk foods. Offer fruit and fresh veggies for snacks
- limiting sodas, juices and other sugary beverages
- drinking plenty of water
- exercise daily for at least an hour
