Tiger Tracks
Volume 1, Edition 7
A Word of Thanks to YOU
This week will officially close-out the 2019-2020 school year. While this is certainly not the end of the year we hoped for as the school would usually be buzzing with excitement and activity, I want to encourage you to look forward to next year! Hold-on fondly to the many great memories and positive things that happened during this school year. There are so very many! I hope that in the coming days you will find time to look back to that first day of school, Tiger Trek, Haunted Horizon, or maybe the Father-Daughter Dance, a music program, or ETC activity. Perhaps you will reflect on an academic accomplishment or other amazing first milestone for your child. In focusing on these things I hope that you will smile, at least a little, and share in my excitement for the coming school year!
I also want to take a moment to personally thank each of you for the sacrifices you have made to partner with us in our first attempt to deliver distance learning on a large scale for students. I know this was difficult and there were many challenges but we have learned so much from these experiences and will continue to make improvements in the future. At the same time, our staff has many reasons to celebrate both the "aha" moments and those precious moments of connection with students and families during this shutdown. As their principal, I could not be more proud!
I sincerely hope that you are staying well and will find time to relax and have lots of fun this summer! I cannot wait to have all of our Tigers back next year and wish our current fifth grade students the very best as they prepare to embark on their middle-school experience!
Sincerely,
Mr. Crutchfield

Attention 6th Grade Band Members
My name is Eric Starnes and I am excited to have your child in the band program at Mill Creek. I wanted to communicate some information to help in preparation for the fall semester. I look forward to the beginning of the year and want to make your students’ transition as simple as possible.
Summer Lessons - Lessons provide invaluable personal instruction and are strongly encouraged. I have attached my lesson information for my summer studio (Trumpet, Trombone, Clarinet) as well as contact information for other instructors in the area. Slots fill fast, and are first come, first serve!
Switching Instruments & New Students - Schedules are based on 5th grade instrumentation, and students do not have the option to change instruments from 5th to 6th grade. New Students MUST have an instrument fitting BEFORE selecting an instrument. *Please contact Mr. Starnes if you are a parents of a student new to band*
Summer Maintenance - Band instruments require a tune up once a year from a local music repair shop to stay in good working order. I would encourage you to schedule one before the fall through a local music store or repair shop.
Snare/Bell Kits - Percussionists need to keep their bell/snare/pad kit to practice at home for middle school. If your percussionist does not have a pad and bell kit, they will need one for 6th grade.
Mill Creek Band Accessories List - Finally, the attached list contains the required book and other accessories to keep instruments in good working order. Music stores can provide a cleaning kit that provides these items, but please use this list to double check your student has everything!
Stay healthy, don’t hesitate to contact me, and I hope to see your student this fall!
Sincerely,
Erick Starnes
