NEWS AND INFO FOR WILDCAT STAFF 8.27
AFFIRMATION OF THE WEEK
PBL is a powerful tool for helping students engage in activism. The first 3 people toe send Ms. Kemp one way you saw students begin to be empowered through your project will win a prize.
PBL TIMELINE - YOU ARE HERE
Congratulations on completing your first Entry Event! It was amazing to see students making connections between their experiences and false narratives that they experience every day. After the Entry Event, students should have recorded reflections. There should be a chart in each classroom with what students "Know" and what they "Need to Know" in order to answer the Driving Question. The next step is for students to understand the problem through inquiry and develop content knowledge and skills (standards) they will need to solve the problem.
Should Already Be Complete:
- Entry Event
- Know/Need to Know charts and student questions displayed
- Students should know the Driving Question
PBL To Do This Week:
- Make sure students know the Driving Question and the problem they will be engaging in. Admin and coaches will be asking students what their project is and what the Driving Question is.
- Make sure you have displayed reflections and Know/Need to Know
- Follow the 5E model to engage students in interdisciplinary, multisensory instruction to learn content through inquiry. Continuously revisit the Driving Question and purpose for what students are learning.

Instructional Resource of the Week
DocsTeach
Rather than passively receiving information from a teacher or textbook, students engage in the activities of historians — making sense of the stories, events and ideas of the past through document analysis.
On DocsTeach you can:
Explore Primary Sources
Access thousands of letters, photographs, speeches, posters, political cartoons, maps, patents, videos, audio recordings, graphs, legislation, telegrams, court documents, amendments, draft cards, executive orders, citizenship documents, census records, and more — covering a wide variety of historical topics, all saved for the American people at the National Archives.Discover and Create Online Activities
Borrow from an ever-expanding collection of document-based activities built by the National Archives education staff and teachers around the country. Use or modify ready-made activities. Follow our Guide to Creating Your DocsTeach Activity to create your own using the online Tools:
- Finding a Sequence
- Making Connections
- Mapping History
- Seeing the Big Picture
- Weighing the Evidence
- Interpreting Data
Engage Students
With hands-on access to primary sources and analysis techniques, students will form a connection to historical evidence and deepen their understanding of the past. Involve your whole class in an activity, or assign students to complete activities individually or in small groups – and turn their work in to you – on DocsTeach.org or the DocsTeach App for iPad. Activities align with Bloom’s Taxonomy and National History Standards."
