COLLABORATING with COACHES
The instructional coach and Sydney Holmes brainstormed together to create a final project in World Studies for the religion unit. Each student researched a unique tradition, created a poster using Canva and then showcased their tradition to their classmates in small groups using a Gallery Walk model.
Students in Lisa Johnson's 3rd grade are working to increase engagement when reading independently. With books appropriate for their reading level, students are recording various story elements in their reading journal. The joint efforts of Mrs. Johnson and the IC enable them to hold individual reading conferences that monitor reading habits and comprehension skills.
The focus in Stacie Englin's 6th grade math class was decimals! With the support and collaborative efforts of the IC, students were able to improve their mastery of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing multi-digit decimals. This Jeopardy game was an engaging way to review before the Thanksgiving break.
Renee Weisenstein and the instructional coach worked together to provide student-centered learning opportunities with the Algebra II students. In this activity, students are the "teachers" for their set of problems. The engaging, on-task conversations amongst the students helped strengthen their skill set on factoring.
The second grade team consisting of Tracy Smeby, Rayshel Witte and Sara Olson, welcomed the collaborative efforts of the IC as they planned their new social studies unit. Preparation, feedback and support enabled them to successfully 'jungle tiger' this new curriculum. The outcome----engaged students sparked by inquiry!
