November 3, 2017
This has been a most exciting day as we celebrated our many nationalities and diverse heritages through our Parade of Nations! The students and families in their clothing from the different countries just made my heart so proud as we celebrate our different cultures. Parents and family members, thank you so much for helping our young people learn from each other and grow a respect for our differences and likenesses. For sure, our smiles are a common language and a likeness that were plentiful today!
Please join us tonight for our International Night!!! This is such a unique opportunity to learn more about our many nationalities and cultures. Your hearts will sing with delight as our families share with pride their foods, artifacts, and traditions! This is truly one of the best events ever in Lexington County! Come one and come all for this free event!!!
The fun is doubled tonight as our PTO has combined two great events into one. We are hosting our Silent Auction filled with wonderful opportunities and gifts. Just place your bids and contribute to our PTO's budget that supports our students and teachers. It is a win-win! You get an item you want and the PTO gets the funds to provide more opportunities for our children and teachers. Hope to see you tonight!
Enjoy the weekend and please read with our wonderful children!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal
Thank you for joining Midway's International Parade of Nations
Midway celebrated the diversity and cultural heritage of our wonderful students and their families. Students and family members wore traditional clothing from their country and some carried their country's flag as they paraded through the hallways singing “Hello to All the Children of the World”.

NOVEMBER 10, 2017 VETERAN'S DAY PARADE AND CEREMONY
Students are encouraged to invite a veteran (a family member, close family friend or neighbor) as their special guest to participate in this event honoring our local veterans and service people. Midway will also create a “Wall of Honor” to display in our school so that our students will have a better understanding of all of the people that serve or have previously served our country – branch, rank, main job duties, tours, recognitions, etc. We would like students that have invited a guest to complete the “Wall of Honor” information sheet attached. Extra forms can be picked up from the front office or printed on white paper from the newsletter email. Students should return the page to the office by November 3 so that the wall display can be created before November 10.
Midway College and Career Week~ November 6-10
21 days of Reading Challenge
The number one way you can help your child with their learning is to read at home! The research is there. So I challenge each of you this month to embark on this challenge. 21 days of reading with and/or to your child. Life can get so busy, but taking just a few minutes each day to sit next to your child and read a book will show them how important reading is, but also how important they are.
Sign up here: http://www.readaloud.org/21daychallenge.html
And take pictures! I'll be participating in this challenge both at Midway, reading aloud to classes, and at home with my own little person. Use the #21dayReadAloud and #MES21dayReadAloud
Let's get reading!
