A Newsletter for Parents and Caregivers

May 20, 2022

Dear Hollymead Families and Caregivers,

May started with an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week celebration. Thank you to the PTO and all of the volunteers who helped celebrate our stellar staff. Everyone felt the appreciation and love!

We will continue to be just as busy over the final weeks of the school year. Our younger grade levels are in the midst of ABC countdowns while our fifth graders are preparing for their promotion ceremony. We are wrapping up SOL testing, and looking forward to Red Nose Day, Field Day, and school wide meetings. There is no shortage of fun!

As we reflect on the past year, we encourage you to complete the Panorama survey, described below. We also are looking ahead to next year, and invite you to share feedback for that as well.

More details about everything can be found below. Let us know if you have any questions!

Field Day Volunteers Needed

We are so excited to have our traditional field day fun again this year! Field Day is on Friday, June 3 and we rely on volunteers to help run the stations. You can send this form in with your child, or send an email to Ms. Rosen at brosen@k12albemarle.org if you are interested in helping for an hour or two. Thank you!

Library Books Due Friday

All school library books are due this Friday, May 27. Please help your children look at home for any books they have checked out. Let Ms. Crone know if you have any questions at jcrone@k12albemarle.org.

Red Nose Day

We are celebrating Red Nose Day on Monday, May 23! Fourth graders have been collecting coin donations, and are hosting a bake sale on Monday. All students can bring in money to buy baked goods during their recess. All items will be 25 or 50 cents. You can learn more about the cause on the Red Nose Day website

Planning for Next Year

We are already planning for the 2022 - 2023 school year! We welcome any feedback you have about your child's classroom experience this year, and thoughts you have about what classroom environments would help them thrive next year. Please fill out this form to let us know what kind of environment works best for your learner.

Also, if you're planning to, or thinking about moving, that is useful information to have as we make lists and prepare for class sizes. Thank you for your help in filling out this form!

School Wide Afternoon Meeting (SWAM)

Next Friday, May 27, our first graders are leading our SWAM, ahead of Memorial Day Weekend. As part of the event, they requested that we wear certain patriotic colors:

2nd and 5th grades = red

1st and 4th grades = white

Preschool, K, and 3rd grades = blue

Panorama Survey

As a reminder, on Monday, May 16 you received an email from Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) with a link to a Panorama survey. This is a chance to share feedback about Hollymead. You can participate until Friday, May 27. You can learn more about the climate surveys given by ACPS on the Panorama Surveys website.

SOL Hallway Monitor Volunteers Needed

We are looking for a few more hall monitor volunteers during our state assessments next week. You can bring a book to read, knitting, suduko, etc. Your responsibility will be to make sure there is one child in the restroom at a time. Plan to arrive by 8:30 and be able to stay until at least 11:00, but may be released earlier. To maintain the testing environment we are looking for adult volunteers. Please review the available slots on this sign up sheet and click on the button to sign up. Contact Mrs. King, lking@k12albemarle.org, with questions. Thank you to those who have already volunteered!
