IMPORTANT TASK TO BE COMPLETED BY EVERY FAMILY
Every family MUST complete Walled Lake's annual online Back-to-School packet. This is in ADDITION to enrolling your Kindergarten student in the district.
Our school district uses the Family Access/Skyward system to automate the process for updating and completing documents such as the emergency card, Food Service application, FERPA form, fee payments, Code of Conduct, and other important annual school forms that require parent/guardian approval.
A Skyward Family Access parent account is required in order to complete the Online Back-to-School Packet process for all schools. A parent account username is alphanumeric - SMITHMAD000; a student account username is the student's ID number - 1234567. To acquire a new or lost parent account code, email FamilyAccess@wlcsd.org or call (248) 956-2190.
Student classroom placements will be available sometime after 4:00pm on Friday, August 19th only if your online Back-to-School packet is completed prior to that time.

School Lunches and the First Week of School
Lunch can be tricky for our youngest learners to navigate in the beginning of the school year. Therefore, we kindly ask that your kindergarten student bring a lunch from home for the first week of school which aids in adjusting to the lunchroom routine. Your student can purchase lunch after the first full week for $3.00. To purchase lunch, you will deposit money into your child’s Skyward Family Access account, and each day they purchase, it is deducted from their account.
All families are encouraged to complete a free and reduced-priced online application instead of a paper application. This application is in the Online Back-to-School Packet you complete in your child’s Skyward Family Access BEFORE school begins. You can find more information on our Food Service website.
Lunches from home should be healthy and protein-based so that they nourish the body and brain. Treats should be saved for dessert at home. If you decide to pack a lunch, only pack what your child can eat in 20 minutes or less. Your child’s stomach is only the size of their fist. We ask for your partnership helping your child understand how much time they have to eat and why we say eat inside, talk outside. To aide in this understanding, it is important to practice eating a packed lunch before school begins.
Children will also have snack time in the classroom. The kindergarten teachers will provide more information about snacks.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
All Wixom Elementary students are provided with School Bus transportation and we highly encourage everyone to use the buses. If a child rides a bus, he/she will never be marked tardy due to weather or traffic.
If you drop your child off, you must do so between 8:50 and 8:55 using our north side (gym) car loop drop off loop or the front door. The north door by the gym will be monitored starting at 8:45 am. If you use the south parking lot, you must walk your child to the front door since the students need to cross through the parking lot to come into the building. You may begin dropping your child off at 8:45 and they can wait outside the building until we start letting students in at 8:50.
If you would like to pick your child up after school, you must use the Wolf Pup Pickup system. Your child will be assigned a Wolf Pup Number that will be attached to his/her backpack. Parents will be given a corresponding Wolf Pup number to show as proof that you are the right person to pick up your child. You may use the north (gym) drive-through lot and display your Wolf Pup number in the car window. Students will be sent out to you. Or, you may park in the south (cafeteria) parking lot and walk up to the side cafeteria door with your Wolf Pup number in hand and the students will be sent out to you. Please note that we have well over 100 families using the car Wolf Pup Pickup and the line gets very long and the street gets heavily congested which makes it difficult for the residents who live on Theodore Street. We encourage you to use the walk-up pickup by the cafeteria or the bus!
Bus Transportation
Please review the following information from our transportation department:
- If your child is eligible for bus transportation, it is recommended that they start this routine on the first day of school.
- Bus Stops/Routes: Bus stops/routes will be posted on the district website and Skyward Family Access at least 1 week before the start of school.
- Bus Drivers - Bus drivers will be contacting all kindergarten families to introduce themselves. You can expect a phone call from your child’s driver in the coming weeks! Our drivers take care to ensure our kindergartners get on/off the bus safely each day.
Enrollment
All Kindergarten families should complete the online enrollment process ASAP. You will receive an email confirmation once your enrollment has been received. The Student Service Department is often flooded with enrollments at this time of year and finalization can take time. If you have completed all steps and submitted all paperwork, you should hear from Student Services soon letting you know that everything has been finalized.
If you have questions about enrollment, please contact Student Services at 248-956-2085 or 248-956-2086. They also have in-person drop-in services at the Education Services Center at 850 Ladd Road Bldg D, Walled Lake from 8:30-3:0 Monday-Friday.
Who Can Enroll for Kindergarten?
Families are eligible to enroll kindergartners who live in the Wixom Elementary attendance area and whose child will be five years old on or before September 1, 2022.
The State of Michigan does offer a waiver for children who turn five before December 1, 2022. However if you plan to submit a waiver request, we STRONGLY recommend that you reach out to our team to talk through your child's readiness. Please call our office at 248-956-3400 and we can also talk to you about other options for this year and why most students who are not 5 by September 1st are not ready for the rigor of our kindergarten program.
