Notes from Dr. Raeder
Welcome to March! While spring is on the way, this month is packed full of activities for Lincoln students, parents, and teachers.
First, please attend parent-teacher conferences. Conferences will be held in person and virtually. More information will be shared with you by your student’s teachers. Conferences will be 4 PM to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, March 21, and Monday, March 27. The first day will be in person in our gymnasium, and the second-day conferences will be held virtually. Conferences give great opportunities for you to meet any new teachers your student may have in the second semester. In addition, conferences allow you to discuss your student's learning and teachers' expectations.
Last, if your student is struggling in a class or needs additional help, please contact the classroom teacher, counselor, or administrator. As a reminder, WIN time, a 30-minute student study time in the middle of the morning, gives students time to receive help from teachers or makeup tests.
Important Information Regarding Junior Testing in April
Although summer is in sight, we must encourage our students to finish the year strong and focused. Spring has a natural excitement with it that sometimes makes attending to the matters of school less of a priority. We are here for your students and truly want the very best for them; any extra effort they give during those last weeks will definitely benefit them. In order to do this, your student may need to spend time before or after class or during WIN time to ensure they do their very best work for the last weeks of this school year.
State testing will begin in April. Juniors are the only class completing the test on April 3, 4, and 5. Freshmen and sophomores will have activities they will be involved with during testing times on those days. Seniors will report to LHS later in the morning on testing days. The schedule is posted below. Seniors will have the opportunity to come in during testing times on April 5th starting at 8:20 to complete make-up work or receive help from teachers. Best of luck to all the juniors who will be testing!
There is a Junior Testing Incentive.
A student may earn exemption from semester tests during their senior year if they meet the following criteria:
Earn an Advanced or Proficient status (level 3 or level 4) on the South Dakota Summative Assessment taken in their junior year OR improve their performance on the South Dakota Summative Assessment from their 7th-grade year.
-- AND --
Maintain a 70% - “C” or higher in the class(es) they wish to be exempt from taking the semester test.
