Important 8th Grade Quist News
May 9, 2021
Can you believe it is already that time of year?!
Thank you for all of your hard work during this unique school year.
This message is to cordially invite you to two events that are coming up to celebrate Quist's 8th-graders. The first one is the Zoom Continuation Ceremony and the Continuation Parade - both happening on 5/25 & 5/26 (please see above invitation).
To reduce confusion, we wanted to let you know that all students will be acknowledged during the ceremony on both 5/25 & 5/26. You are welcome to attend the ceremony on either or both days - your student will be at school on their designated day and in attendance then.
Additionally, we want students to be able to celebrate those whom they may have seldom seen this year due to A/B days and cohorting. That being said, A-Day students will attend school on Tuesday 5/25 and also drive through the parade on Wednesday 5/26 to wave goodbye to B-Day students. Conversely, B-Day students will drive through the parade on Tuesday 5/25 to wave goodbye to A-Day students and then attend school on Wednesday 5/26 as they normally would.
Please reach out to Ms. Darcy Brown if you have any questions. We hope to see you at either or both celebrations!
Chromebook Opportunity
If students are not in need of their device over the summer, we have a great opportunity to give back!! 8th-grade students will be given the option to donate their Chromebook to students in Ghana. Our coding and multimedia teacher, Mr. Ayi Bonte is a Ghanaian. Mr. Ayi Bonte founded a nonprofit organization called African Einstein Initiative. The primary goal is to support education in Africa, particularly Ghana. The organization provides school supplies, clothes, and computers to schools in remote areas in Ghana. The long-term goal of the organization is to build libraries and STEM centers in schools in Ghana. Any 8th grader, who is able, can donate their school-issued Chromebook at the end of the year to this wonderful organization.
If you have other school supplies you would like to donate, we will be accepting those donations as well. Students can leave their Chromebook and any donated school supplies in their Pathways class on their last day and we will collect them. Please contact Mr. Ayi Bonte at aayibonte@27J.net or Darcy Brown at dbrown@ 27j.net with any questions.
