Weekly Newsletter
Mrs. McCaskey's Newsletter to FNES Faculty & Staff
Key Info for the Week
Coats and Gloves: Make sure that you mention the change of the weather in your newsletters to parents. Please do not allow students to play outside without coats in extremely cold weather.
Freckle Frenzy: This month we begin Freckle Frenzy!!! On Fridays, I will be announcing students that are in the lead for our February Freckle Frenzy. Please continue to assign this nightly for homework. The contest will run from February 1-29, and winners will receive a prize from DCS Foundation.
Mid 9 weeks Progress Reports: These reports will go home on February 7th. Please make sure the you get the brag tags for the mid 9 weeks clip chart numbers. Now is also the time to have conversations with parents about where students are academically.
Pre-K Registration: The 2024-2025 online application to pre-register for the First Class Pre-K Program is open. Parents can now register their child for PK for the 2024-2025 school year. Parents can visit the DCS website to register ( Make sure to click the enrollment tab).
Curriculum Meeting: The snow caused us to miss our curriculum meeting last week, and I wanted to share some important information on fluency. After looking at several data pieces, fluency is a huge factor in some of our students missing benchmark cutoffs. This weekend read the article below (click on the word fluency below), and try to find ways to fit in fluency practice for not only reading, but math facts as well.
ACAP Practice: On Thursdays, reserve a time throughout the day where students get extra practice with test taking skills/strategies. You have been given a guide to help with your planning. Also, utilize the online resource: Alabama ACAP Success. The books were placed in your mailboxes yesterday. The codes were sent through email last week.
Sanitizing/Cleaning: Please continue to use wipes to clean desk several times a day. Also, remind students to wash hands properly.
Grading Practices- Teachers please be diligent in entering grades throughout the 9 weeks and not just at the end of the grading period. It's important to keep everything updated to keep parents informed as they are checking their child's progress throughout the 9 weeks.
