From the Principal
Dear Copeland families,
November is off to a great start. Ms. Claudia Vigil, our music teacher, took the 5th grade choir to perform at Ace Hardware on Wednesday evening. This is always such a fun event, and the choir sounded amazing! If you want to see video, please check out our Facebook page. We are looking forward to the choir performing when we celebrate our Veterans on November 11th at 2:00 pm. We love to honor our Veterans and take them to parade through the halls of Copeland. Thank you to our Veterans for your service!
Thank you for your support of our Fall Book Fair! Tonight is family night from 4:00-6:00 pm. We will have another family night on Wednesday, November 9th, from 4:00-6:00 pm. Don't forget about our Fall Fest on October 12th from 2:00-5:00 pm on the playground. PTO has some great activities lined up, and it will be so much fun! We hope to see you there!
We are looking forward to our fourth grade field trip on November 9th to Cy Ranch to watch their performance of Into the Woods. First grade can't wait to welcome their families into their classrooms for Thankful Night on November 15th from 5:00-6:00 pm. PreK is excited to go to the SRC on November 16th. Kindergarten is looking forward to their Thankful Day on Thursday, November 17th, during lunch and recess. Fifth grade is looking forward to their first Multicultural Day on November 18th. Lastly, we can't wait to celebrate Copeland's 30th Anniversary on November 29th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Please swing by this come and go event. We will have great entertainment throughout the evening. There are so many fun things going on this month!
Don't forget that Monday and Tuesday, November 7th and 8th, are staff and student holidays. Thanksgiving break will be the week of November 21-25. I am so thankful for our Copeland families. It is such a blessing and an honor to serve our school and community. My heart is full of gratitude.

PBIS - Positive Behavior Interventions & Support
This month we are focusing on GRATITUDE by being RESPECTFUL to adults and peers. Our students are learning that gratitude means thanking people who help us in any capacity at school or at home. Gratitude is also about appreciating and recognizing those who keep our building clean and safe. When we show gratitude with a smile or a thank you, we are being respectful to others in our school and community. Please have conversations with your child about how they show gratitude at Copeland, at home, and in the community. We are so proud of our Colts for showing they CARE by:
- Being Consistent
- Being Accountable
- Being Respectful
- Being Engaged
We appreciate your support in our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports in our school.

Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact the school counselor.
