Franklin Central High School: 2019-20, Issue #21, 1-13-20

THANK YOU, FLASHES!

Thank you to anyone and everyone that attended the Open House. If you had a chance to make it to the event, you know that everything that makes Franklin Central such a great place to be was on full display! From performing arts to athletics to academics (and everything in between), we are very proud of what our students and staff accomplish on a daily basis. We can't wait to see what the next year brings!

2020-21 Course Guide and Scheduling

A new and improved 2020-21 FCHS Course Guide is now on the FC website. The easiest place for parents to locate it will be under the "Parent" tab and "I want access to." You may also access it directly here.

We strongly encourage you and your child to review this resource before selecting courses for next year. The Course Guide has information on diploma types, prerequisites for courses, credits etc... We have several new classes for next year, so check it all out in the 2020-2021 FCHS Course Guide.

Current juniors will begin meeting with counselors this week to schedule for next school year. Sophomores and freshmen will meet with counselors at the end of January and into February.

Athletic Information

The varsity boys basketball team had two big wins last week - defeating Whiteland and Southport to improve their record to 8-2. The Flashes will open the Marion County tournament at Perry Meridian on Tuesday. Game time will be 6:30 PM.

The girls basketball team lost to rival Roncalli this week but bounced back to an easy victory over Greenwood on Saturday to improve their record to 10-7. They host two games this week - Wednesday vs. Franklin and Friday vs. Avon.

The wrestlers crushed New Pal this past week on Senior Night 62-12. Seniors honored were Nate Vinson, Luke Lockwood, Joey Hill, Deshawn Young, Gavin Keesee along with athletic trainers Gretchen Young and Alyssa Lamping. Not only did the Flashes honor their Seniors but we also wrestled side-by-side with the middle school Flashes, who also won big over New Pal's middle school team. The Flashes wrestle at Greenwood this week before the big HCC tournament this weekend hosted by Noblesville High School.

Big picture

The boys and girls swim teams both finished 7th in the HCC tournament last Saturday. Nate Boomershine had a strong meet with two 2nd place finishes in the 50 free and the 100 free. They will honor their Seniors on Tuesday vs. Brebeuf and will host Center Grove on Thursday.

The gymnastics team lost their first meet of the season at Columbus North. They will travel to Seymour on Thursday and host their 2nd annual Invitational on Saturday.

We also want to congratulate the freshman boys basketball B team for winning their tournament this weekend with an easy victory over Central Christian followed by an intense victory over Roncalli in the championship 36-33.

SENIOR FINAL EXAM EXEMPTION INFORMATION

Senior Parents:

The following email was sent to your student last week. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this opportunity.

Attention Seniors:

This year we are going to allow seniors to exempt up to four second semester finals. That means, provided you meet the criteria I am about to outline, you would not have to take up to four finals.

The criteria are as follows: You must have at least a 90% semester average and no more than three absences to that class to be eligible for exemption. Simply put, once you are absent to a period for the fourth time you cannot be exempt from that final.

School sponsored activities such as a field trip will not count towards your total number of absences.

The process for exemptions will begin in late May. Please note that the final decision on exemption will fall to your teacher. They do have the right to deny the exemption request for any reason.

I am so proud of our students and I want to make sure I am rewarding the students that take care of the business every single day. Get here, get an A, avoid a final. It is that easy.

Seniors: I look forward to seeing you at school everyday starting on January 6th..

Just go to Parchment.com and order your transcript! Either log in to an existing account or create one. If your name has changed since high school, make sure you enter your maiden/previous name. Also, don't forget to include "Jr., III" etc. if that is what was on your high school records. It's easy and convenient!

NEW Immunization Requirements for 2020-2021

Dear parents/guardians,

Attached are the new Immunization Requirements for the 2020-2021 School Year. There has been a change. All students K-12 will now need 2 doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine with at least 6 months between the doses. We wanted to make you aware of these changes. Seniors still are required to have the booster dose (#2 MCV4 or Menactra) meningitis vaccine as well. Please check your child’s shot record and contact your provider to schedule appointments. A good time to receive updated vaccinations is over breaks so school is not missed.

To find a clinic that is administering immunizations, please contact the Marion County Health Department at 317-221-5700 to schedule an appointment or to find out about their same day services. Community Clinic at Walgreens may also have some immunizations available. To find a Community Clinic at Walgreens near you, please call 1-855-626-7761.

Lastly, attached is information regarding the flu, covering your cough, and handwashing. By simply covering your cough and adhering to good hand hygiene, this minimizes the spreading of these germs.

Attendance Office - 317-803-5655

Students that are leaving early will need to bring a note, signed by the guardian, to either the Attendance Office or the FA office before school to get their pass to leave or be picked up.

You must leave a message on the attendance line regarding your students absence even if you spoke to a teacher, nurse, guidance counselor, etc.

Students are not released to someone "on the list" unless the parent/guardian has notified the Attendance Office for that specific instance.

If you have already given your student permission to leave ill, please call the attendance line and a pass will be sent for your student to leave. Do not send your student to the clinic if you have already told them they can leave or are being picked up sick.

The person picking up the student must come into the school with a valid ID
