2019-2020 CALENDAR
A NOTE FROM THE HEALTH ROOM
Hard to believe we are half way through the year! With the busy season, I'm sure the Christmas break was welcomed. Just a few reminders from your nursing staff. We are well into the season of cold and flu. Keeping your children safe and healthy is a priority to us. Be sure to be mindful of the changing Kansas weather and send a coat with your child. We have been blessed with mild temperatures lately, but as you know, that can change from morning to afternoon. If your child is vomiting and/or running a temperature >100, it is policy they be kept at home. Your child may return to school only after they are fever free and no vomiting for 24 hours. Next, if you have received a letter regarding missing immunizations, please send the updated information to the health office. The state has regulations and requirements the district must meet and enforce. If you have any questions, please call 218-4630.

4TH & 5TH GRADE ARCHERY DURING P.E.
Dear Parents,
During the month of January the 4th and 5th grade students at Meadowlark will be participating in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) during their PE class. The NASP program promotes the international-style target archery as part of the in-school curriculum, to improve educational performance and participation in the shooting sports among students in grades 4-12.
Nearly everyone can enjoy success in archery. The sport or discipline of archery is highly inclusive and is for many enthusiasts, a lifelong activity. In NASP-style archery students of all genders, abilities and backgrounds flourish.
Before students will be allowed to take their first shots they will first learn the safety rules & procedures as well as the 11 Steps to Archery Success. Your child will be receiving a card which has the 11 Steps to Archery Success and the Safety Whistle Commands listed. Please be sure to have your child study these, because they will be tested over this material.
Thank you for your help and support and if you have any questions you can email me at crusinbt@usd385.org.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Crusinberry
PE Teacher
2ND GRADE GINGERBREAD STEM PROJECT
Throughout this year in second grade, our students have been learning about communities and the types of places that are needed in a community. Each class discussed the important places in our community and the important places that a community needs for the people who live there. Each child was assigned a place and with the help of parents and family members, we created our own gingerbread communities in our classrooms. Miss August's class had the opportunity to Skype with a buddy class in another state and share communities. They compared and contrasted the places that each community has and discussed how our communities are alike and different, all while enjoying our pajamas and hot cocoa!
SPELLING BEE IS BUZZING THIS WAY!!
We are all so excited to find out who the Meadowlark school spelling bee champ will be at our competition scheduled for Thursday, January 10th at 1:45 p.m. in the cafetorium. The classroom champions have been chosen, study lists have been given, and the anticipation is mounting.
Best of luck to all of these hardworking spellers:
3rd Grade – Saydie DS., Joshua C., Chase C., and Landon C.
4th Grade – Sarah L., Bryce S., Avery U., and Julia P.
5th Grade – Carsten D., Isaac B., Blake W., Gwyn P., Emma J., Isac J.
KINDERGARTEN MUSIC PROGRAM
The Kindergarten classes from Meadowlark Elementary went on a Musical adventure on Thursday, December 6th, at 2 p.m. They met Frosty, the Gingerbread Man, Rudolph, and Santa. The students sang about these friends in hope of spreading some holiday cheer. The students looked cute in the reindeer shirts that they made and they sounded great too. Thank you for your continued support of these kids.
Happy New Year!

2018 GIVING CAMPAIGN
Every year Meadowlark Elementary has raised money to help some of our own Meadowlark families to have a wonderful holiday season. This has been a tradition at Meadowlark for the past 17 years! The holiday fundraiser is a service project that is coordinated by the 4th-grade teachers and the school counselor. Thanks to the caring and generosity, we raised $1,732.83! This allowed us to assist 10 Meadowlark families!
4th Grade Shopping at Walmart
On Tuesday, December 18th, fourth grade took the donations from the Giving Campaign and went shopping to Walmart to help some of our families here at Meadowlark. The kids were given a budget and shopping list to buy gifts and/or groceries and get as much as they can. The class had a wonderful time shopping and enjoyed the experience of helping others by making their holiday season a little brighter. Thanks to Miss Hoopes and our Student Council for buying the wrapping paper, bows, and tape. A special thanks go out to our 4th-grade parents who helped with the shopping and were able to bring our gifts and groceries back to school.

EARN CASH FOR OUR SCHOOL
Box Tops for Education
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10 cents for our school! Just look for the pink Box Top on tons of products. All you need to do is cut them out, glue or tape them to a collection sheet, and send them into school. Each month we will send home a new collection sheet. Be sure to send your sheet back to school by the end of the month, and, don’t worry, it’s okay if it isn’t full. We have a great trophy that the winning class each month will get to keep in their classroom. This year, our goal is to earn $1,000 for our school!
