What is the AIDS epidemic in Africa?
AIDS is a disease in which there is a severe loss of the body's cellular immunity, greatly lowering the resistance to infection and malignancy. There are roughly 25,000,000 living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. There were an estimated 1.6 million new HIV infections and 1.2 million AIDS-related deaths.
The cure.
Children under 15 years old are only half as likely as adults to receive the lifesaving treatment they need.
Adolescents with AIDS.
2.1 million adolescents (10-19 years) were living with HIV in 2012.There is an estimated 370,000 new infections in 2012.
Children born with AIDS.
Without treatment, one half of infants living with HIV will die before their 2nd birthday.
