STUDENT GROWTH AND ACHIEVEMENT
On Data Day, we'll be discussing plans for all students to grow as readers. Please be sure to consult the reading growth data that I shared on Monday plus other data that you may have reviewed with our Title I specialists or have available to you. We'll be meeting in the Science Lab and following a structure much like the fall Data Day. Please bring your devices and/or F&P folders or other materials that may be helpful during your planning.
*Only teachers who teach ELA should plan to attend.
On February 14, we have at least two hours for all teachers to focus on ELA or math. Teachers of students in grades K-3, plus our ELA teachers in grades 5-6 will focus on continuing the work from GLM this week and Data Day on Monday. Teachers of students in grades 4-6 will focus on using math data to notice trends that we need to address as a grade-level or even as grade bands or as a school. For example, our 5th quintile of students or if we disaggregate the data for students with GIEPs, they are not growing according to PVAAS.
The student growth and achievement work that we've been doing this year is important... actually it is critical, especially given that we are a Title I school. All students should be growing at least a year's growth in core content areas. As we expect our students to take risks, I encourage YOU to take risks and ask questions. Think outside of the box. Determine and act upon the information you have and work collaboratively to "grow" our learners. If something does not work, analyze, revise, and try again.
I've had more conversations with colleagues this year who are celebrating student growth than the past two years... and it is because we are challenging the norm. If something isn't working, you have my permission to think outside of the box. Go for it!
SAFE AND CARING ENVIRONMENT
Kudos to our SWPBS Core Team for coordinating a fun and FREE way to acknowledge our students for following Go CATS in our hallways. The clap-in can be viewed on the EV Facebook page if you'd like to view or use.
Celebration... Zero students attended hallway class this week!
We still have work to do in our hallways so they will still be the focus of our SWPBS efforts next week. Please continue to communicate hallway expectations and the hallway class concept with your students and families. Feel free to copy and paste from the WOW to your weekly parent communicator.
Hallway Class this week: Wednesday from 3:15-4:00 p.m.
On February 14, Shawn and Chrissie will start our day with SEL for teachers and then also provide ideas and resources for you to take away and implement in your own classroom.
CLIMATE AND CULTURE
If you'd like to repeat or post any of the Morning Announcement BHM celebrations, visit HERE. Thanks to Steph Laubenstein and her class for coordinating and sharing daily facts with us.
COMMUNICATION HIGHLIGHT
Per your feedback, we are re-introducing quick, positive morning announcements. This month, the announcements are focused on BHM. We'll be adding a quick school-wide pledge and the Pledge of Allegiance (over the PA instead of individually by class). You should still have nearly 20 minutes for your daily Morning Meeting.
When should I show EV News? First, all homeroom teachers should be sharing EV News with their homeroom classes. I know some teachers share EV News during Morning Meeting, while other teachers use EV News as a brain break or video to watch while eating a snack. The latest episode does not have to be shown on the same day that Danielle sends it, but it should be shown in a timely manner. The broadcast is yet another way to share messages with students, such as upcoming events. Have a suggestion for EV News? Contact Danielle.
PRINCIPAL'S GOALS
Area 2. The perception of excluding others in decision making.
Feel free to stop by a drop-in session scheduled for next week:
AM session Wednesday, February 12, 7:00-7:30
PM session Tuesday, February 11, 12:00-12:45
WELCOME BACK AND THANK YOU
Welcome back to Katie Overland who returns on Monday, February 10. Many thanks to Victoria Ruager who will be with us on Monday and Tuesday as Katie transitions back to EV. We hope to see Victoria often as a substitute at EV.
