Swansboro Elementary

August 14, 2022

Just 2 more weeks until school starts, yippee!

Teachers will return to school on Thursday to begin preparing for our students. That means they will be mailing you a postcard soon:) Check those mailboxes starting this Friday to find out which amazing class you will be in this year!

If you have a kindergarten student, on the postcard you will also see your child's designated staggered enrollment day. All OCS Kindergartens participate in staggered enrollment which means that kindergarten students only attend school one of the first three days of school so that they can get to know their teacher and their classroom in a smaller setting for more individualized attention. Your kindergarten child will be assigned a start date of Aug. 29th, 30th, OR 31st. They will attend ONLY ONE of the first three days of our school year. All kindergartners will come to school on Thursday, September 1st and Friday, September 2nd. On staggered enrollment days, we ask that parents bring their kindergartener to school at 9 am. Parents will have a chance to walk their kindergarten student down to the class and meet with the teacher briefly. We know that sending your child off to school for the first time can be a little overwhelming, but trust me when I tell you we have an AMAZING group of kindergarten teachers, I promise they are in great hands!

If you have any family or friends that have moved into our district or have a child that recently turned 5, please encourage them to register their child as soon as possible. This will helps us secure the right amount of teachers. Registration can be done online at https://www.onslow.k12.nc.us/Page/1935.

Enjoy these last 2 weeks of summer and we can't wait to see you soon!

Please make plans to join us on August 25th 3 pm- 6pm for our Open House. You and your child can stop by our school anytime between 3 pm & 6 pm to meet your teacher, drop off your school supplies, make transportation arrangements, and much more. Please make sure that you begin in the gym to establish car pool and bus procedures. Then you can visit your child's classroom and be sure to swing by the cafeteria before you leave. Be sure to join our fabulous PTO, and swing by the cafeteria for before/after school care, lunch applications, financial assistance, and more! We look forward to seeing everyone at Open House! If you don't want to wait in long lines, please make sure that you create your school dismissal manager account and that you set your child's default transportation. You will be getting an email later this week with your login credentials. If you come closer to five, the lines usually are not as long.

* Bus routes for the upcoming school year are not available yet. Once they become available, we will be sure to inform everyone.

* We will be using School Dismissal Manager again this year for car riders. Parents will receive a welcome email from School Dismissal Manager with your login credentials the week of August 15th. There will also be staff available to assist with you car pool procedures at Open House.
