Dear Elementary Caregivers,
Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s elementary education. Standards-based report cards contain some information regarding your child’s progress in the grade-level standards required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and will be available on February 9th.
The report card is separated into two categories. The first category, titled Approaches to Learning and Effort Indicators, shares information regarding your child’s progress in the skills that support sustained academic growth.
- 4 - Student demonstrates skill/effort consistently
- 3 - Student demonstrates skill/effort most of the time
- 2 - Student demonstrates skill/effort some of the time
- 1 - Student requires on-going intervention
- X - Standard not addressed at this time
The second category, titled Academic Performance Skills Indicators, measures your child’s progress in the academic skills addressed in the grade level based on Massachusetts’ state required standards.
Grades are based on the end-of-grade-level standard. Most students will receive:
B for Beginning
P for Progressing on the mid-year report
M for Mastery of or proficiency in the standard
An X will be entered if a unit or standard has not yet been taught.
This way of measuring progress towards grade-level standards is different from other grading systems (for example, A, B, C grades). The standards are designed so that the goal is for students to meet each benchmark by the end of the academic year; that said, students’ development and progress does have some common variance.
Students grow in different ways at different stages of development, and this report card presents you with a high-level overview of your child’s current progress. Every year, some students in the district will receive support through our Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). If your child receives support through this process, you will be notified by the school-based team. This report card is not designed to provide highly detailed information about your child, and for that, we recommend communicating with your child’s teacher and school-based team regularly through caregiver conferences or other means.
Report cards will be available on February 9, 2024 in our student information system, called Aspen X2. Next Wednesday, February 7, 2024, you will receive an email with specific instructions explaining how to login to view your students’ report card(s).
If you need help logging in to Aspen X2, have questions or issues resetting your password, please contact the Aspen X2 Helpdesk. They are available Monday through Friday from 8:30am-3:00pm. (Send an email to helpdesk@framingham.k12.ma.us or call 508-782-6928)
If you would like a printed copy of your child’s report card, please reach out to the school.
Thank you, and we look forward to our continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Framingham Public Schools
