From the Front Office:
LaCoste Families,
We want to take the opportunity to thank our LaCoste families that are Veterans! Thank you for you valor and courage in defending our country and keeping us safe. We hope you were able to join us for our parade today 11/11/22! Our students truly enjoyed having you drive by and wave at them. Thank you again for participating in our event today.
We had a successful book fair which ended today and we want to thank PTO for their timeless support for our students and staff. Thank you to everyone who volunteered through our PTO and helped our students and families with the book fair!
Family Turkey Bingo will be held on Nov 17, 2022 at 5:00pm. We hope you can join us for this event and synergize as a family as we learn from our Counselor and Social Worker.

Counselor's Corner
I finished up bullying prevention with students this week. I will begin lessons this week on personal space and personal safety in accordance with Erin’s Law.
PK - I will introduce students to the feeling of calm, by using the book “A Little Spot of Yoga.” This is a first for me, so I’m looking forward to learning with the students the effectiveness of deep breathing with yoga!
K/1st - We will go over personal space by using a PowerPoint with a social story and personal safety. Students will practice appropriate personal space using hula-hoops.
2nd/3rd - We will discuss personal space and safety. I will also read “Harrison P. Spader, Personal Space Invader.” We may practice with hula-hoops and also identify good/bad personal space from pictures.
4th - We will discuss personal boundaries and what this means in friendships, as well as safety in a PowerPoint format.
5th - Students will learn about boundaries and how to set limits. A house and fence drawing will be used to help students understand what they are okay/not okay with and how they can handle different situations if boundaries are broken.
We continue to be available to all students upon request. If you have any questions or concerns, you are welcome to contact us at the emails listed below, or use the attached form.
Watch D.O.G.S
Thank you to Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers that came on campus this week! We are so thankful to have them interact with our students positively and be another male presence on our campus. Thank you to Mr. Kameron Zepeda, Mr. Timothy Kennedy, Mr. Kyle Iacano, and Mr. Justin Garcia.
If you would like to volunteer your time as a Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer, please contact Mrs. Rakowitz at cara.rakowitz@mvisd.org to learn how to get you scheduled!
Leaders of the Week
5th Grader Damien Torres is a quiet student, but behind his soft voice is a determined, hard worker. Damien has put first things first by reading everyday and as a result he has made great gains academically. He has become a leader in Read n Quiz, setting an example for others to follow. He participates in class and is motivated to do his best. He is being proactive by making good choices and is on his way for success this year. Congratulations Damien, we are very proud of you, keep up the good work!!!
1st Grader Brinley Styles has shown great leadership qualities by always participating in class and giving 100% effort in everything she does. She has worked hard to meet both her reading and math goals this past month. Brinley is always willing to help out her fellow classmates and a great role model both in and out of the classroom.
Caught Being a Leader!
Students cannot only be caught being a leader at school by staff, but also at home by you! If you see your child exhibiting any of the habits on their own without prompting, fill out this form! Examples: Habit 3: Put First Things First - Your child went to a quiet area in your home and began doing their homework without being told. Habit 5: Seek First To Understand, Then To Be Understood - Your child listened to their sibling’s point of view during an argument, understood why their sibling was upset, and did not push their own opinion of what happened or interrupt.
Students that are caught being a leader will have their name announced on the morning announcements and will be able to choose a charm for their Leader In Me Chain. Students proudly wear their chains to our Campus Awards.

Caught Reading
LaCoste Elementary students often go above and beyond! With that in mind, we love to acknowledge when they do. Reading is an important everyday activity. It shows great examples of the Leadership Habits we know are the foundation of our success. We like to “Catch Students Reading”. Examples of that would be; students independently choosing to read as a leisure activity or students achieving a reading goal they had set for themselves, like finishing their first chapter book or reading their first book independently. Parents can also "Catch Students Reading" at home! Please click the button below to submit your child's name for the drawing.
Each week a name is randomly drawn from those submissions. Their name is displayed on a bulletin board in the library, given a prize for their accomplishment, mentioned in our morning campus announcements and posted in our Parent Newsletter.
This week's winner is Leiana Williamson!
Leiana Williamson was caught by Mrs.Neal.
Leiana Meet her ISIP reading goal for November.
