Dear Tashua Families,
Happy October! It is hard to believe we have already completed more than 1/10th of the school year. The students are working in top gear and putting forth their best effort each and every day. We thank you for your partnership in ensuring they are well-rested and prepared daily for learning. When we feel good, we do good! The following students are being recognized this month on the Principal's Proud Board for their outstanding effort.
Congratulations goes out to the following students:
Kindergarten: Caley Choy, Sara Ciszewski, Wyatt Meier, Oviya Partheepan
Grade 1: Sofia Calorossi, Owen English, Reid Mohr
Grade 2: Olivia Berry, Evie Goepfrich, Victoria McMillian, Eden Munden
Grade 3: Jacob Dolgoff, Briana Grimes, Olivia Pisani, Luca Stein
Grade 4: Marvin Castillo, Jr., Benjamin Lee, Sofia Solustri
Grade 5: Madison Dombrowski, Tanisha Keshan, Haley Sineglasov
Did you know today is National World Smile Day? Our students spent time today generating ideas of what makes them smile. Please take some time to discuss this with your child. Think about what makes you smile. Often times, the smallest things in life make us happy and they are easy to incorporate into our daily routines if we are mindful of them.
Throughout the month of October, we will be participating in the community service project Socktober. Throughout the month, we will be collecting new socks to be donated to The Bridgeport Rescue Mission. To learn more about this initiative please view the Kid President video link below.

Also during the month of October, our Tashua staff members will be participating in Trumbull's PINK OUT initiative on October 22nd in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you would like to make a contribution to Pink Pledge, please use the link below:

Further, October is Fire Prevention Awareness Month. Our students in grades K-2 will have an in-school presentation on fire safety. During this presentation, our local fire fighters will be discussing fire safety with our students. The students will also have the opportunity to go outside and learn all about the fire truck. Please be sure to spend time as a family discussing fire prevention and safety plans, and don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors this month. Below you will find 12 Fire Safety Tips!

Lastly, if you ordered mums or daisies from our PTA, do not forget to pick them up in front of the school today from 3:45 - 5:30 PM.
Enjoy this beautiful fall weekend!
Best regards,
Mrs. Neumeyer

Updates from our PTA
We had our first meeting virtually last night. Thank you to all who attended. Minutes will be distributed ahead of the next meeting, but here are the highlights:
Treasurer's Report: Kiran did a fabulous job presenting her first budget as Treasurer and was unanimously approved. You can view the budget by accessing the link below:

Fundraising Report: Lisa shared a great update on the fall fundraiser. It will include cookie dough sales this year! She shared other exciting ideas such as a Tashua day at the virtual reality center at Hawley Lane which is owned by Tashua parents and another take and make fundraiser in the winter.
Chair Reports: Many of our wonderful chairs submitted updates ahead of the meeting. Thank you to Susanne for compiling these. If you are new to the school and see a committee that interests you on this report feel free to directly contact the chair listed or contact Shannon. Here is a link to the reports of various committees:

Open chair positions were sent via eblast earlier this week. Please review and contact Shannon with any questions. Some volunteers have offered to fill these positions, but many committees can be supported by co-chairs, so consider joining the fun!
Friday Night Lights:
The weather looks beautiful so come out and support THS as they challenge Shelton at 7pm this Friday October 1st. The THS booster club will be setting up a tailgating area for us so that we can have a picnic dinner (bring your own) before the game. The area will be near the ticket booth and in the grass next to the portable classrooms. Look for tables and garbage cans! The booster club will send a ticket rep to the tailgating area to sell tickets. Tickets are $6 for adults. Tashua students get free admission and other students are $4. Please wear your Tashua blue and try to sit near the press box. So that we can enjoy the game together. Shannon Diaz from the PTA will be there, but not until 6:30pm. Please feel free to introduce yourselves as Tashua parents to any booster club reps and they will help you with anything!
Upcoming PTA Dates:
- Friday, October 1st 3:30-5:30pm - Mum Sale Pick up at Tashua
- Friday, October 1st - Friday Night Lights, 7:00 PM Trumbull High School - Tashua students will have free admission with a paying adult.
