Sheridan Newsletter 4.14.23

A Message from the Principal
Dear Sheridan families,
Spring has sprung here at Sheridan! We are so happy to be outside again for Wellness and are enjoying full use of our outside spaces. Special shout out to the APT for updating the spring planters - they are like a cheerful burst of sunshine greeting us every day! Spring also brings assessment season. We are SO PROUD of our 3rd and 4th grade students for trying their best during IAR testing this week. Thank you for all you did to prepare the children at home for success here at school. We will administer make-up tests to those students who were absent in the coming week, so please continue to send iPads fully-charged to school. MAP testing for grades 2,3,4 runs April 25-27 - iPads are also needed for these dates. We look forward to seeing how much our students have grown academically this year!
Our Sharks also earned a whole school celebration for all having all reached at least 75 classroom shark bites! Ask your child how they celebrated!
Spring MAP Testing: District 67 students in grades 2-8 will take the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) during April 24-May 5. MAP is a Common Core-aligned, adaptive, computer-based assessment. This nationally normed assessment is designed to measure growth over time in the areas of reading and math. The district utilizes the achievement and growth data from MAP to inform instructional planning for individuals and groups of students; and measure growth from year-to-year.
Incoming Kindergarten Coffee: Come one, come all! Join us for coffee and discussion on Wednesday, April 19th at 10am at Sheridan!
Family Sharing Night: We are excited to welcome all families to showcase our Sharks’ learning and special projects on Thursday, April 27. This is a fun night not to be missed! Schedule:

Our front parking will be available and LFPD has approved parking on Spruce Ave east of Sheridan Road. Please do not park on our front grass. As always, walking to school is encouraged!
From the Yearbook Team: The Yearbook pages are currently being edited and if parents have school activity pictures please email the pictures to sheridansharkphotos@gmail.com.

Steps to order:
1) Email mhanlon@lfschools.net so we know you will be ordering a yearbook - be sure to include your child's name on your email

Rising 5th Grade Families: Deer Path Administration invites the parents and guardians of incoming 5th graders to join us for our Jump-Start to 5th Grade parent information evening. The evening will run in-person at Deer Path in the Auditorium from 6:00 pm until 7:45 pm on Wednesday, April 19th. All sessions will be recorded and shared out after the evening concludes, along with a DPM “Nuts & Bolts” document that outlines some key takeaways from the evening!
Additionally, this is the time of year in which we begin making decisions about class placement for next year. When creating classes, many things are taken into consideration, including the individual learning styles and personalities of each student. We strive to have a well-balanced, academically heterogeneous group of students with a full range of learner abilities in every classroom. If you would like to share information about some unique aspect of your child's learning style and/or any specific academic and/or social concerns that should be considered, please respond to this Google Form by Friday, May 12. Please note that specific teacher requests will not be considered. Thank you for trusting our professional judgment as we work to create a wonderful learning experience for each and every student here at Deer Path.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan

Please join the District 67 APT for the School's Out Food Drive to benefit North Chicago Community Partners. Donations will be accepted from Monday, May 1 to Friday, May 5 at all of our District 67 Schools.
Requested Donations
The following items for your school may be dropped off in your school lobby:
- Cherokee: Canned Mixed Vegetables, Bagged Pinto Beans, Vanilla Extract, Peanut Butter or Jelly
- DPM 5/6: Cereal Boxes, Individual Snack Boxes, Baking Soda or Baking Powder, Peanut Butter or Jelly
- DPM 7/8: Mac & Cheese Cups, Juice Boxes, Cooking Oil, Peanut Butter or Jelly
- Everett: Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Chocolate Chips, Peanut Butter or Jelly

Why Donate?
One in four children in neighboring communities experience food insecurity and are left without regular meals (normally served at school) over the summer months. To help these students, District 67 works with North Chicago Community Partners (NCCP), a local nonprofit supporting our neighboring youth in North Chicago School District 187. Each week, about 75 families visit NCCP's Family Care Closet, a respectful school-based food pantry available to area families. Your donation of food matters!
Volunteers Needed
Join us to help sort the food after school on Friday, May 5, 3:30pm at CROYA.
