OMS Student Council Kicks Off our 2nd Trimester

An enormous thank you to our OMS Student Council and their advisor, Mrs. Drumm, for organizing our monthly assembly. The theme of the assembly was setting goals. As we begin a new trimester, it is important for students to set academic goals for themselves and to monitor them throughout the twelve weeks. I look forward to visiting with students to learn about their goals for this 2nd trimester.

Social Studies Teacher, Mr. Throop, Gives the Gift of Life!

We are so proud of our very own Mr. Throop for how he gave back on Giving Tuesday. Mr. Throop signed up for the Be The Match national bone barrow donation registry a year and a half ago. He received a call this summer that he was one of six people who were a possible match for a 60 year old man in Canada with blood cancer. In August, he learned he was the best match. It wasn’t bone marrow, but peripheral blood stem cells that he would be donating. Over the holiday weekend, he received five injections to prepare for the procedure. On Tuesday, they began removing the cells. Immediately, the cells were put on a flight into Canada for the recipient. It will be a 20-30 day process for the recipient to receive the cells via an iv. After that, it will be an additional 90 days before the doctors know if it was successful. It wasn't until Mr. Throop returned home on Tuesday evening that he realized it was Giving Tuesday. Thank you Mr. Throop for being an incredible role model! For additional information and photos, please see our website at www.otsegops.org

Good luck to our Robotics Teams competing in Flint this weekend! We are proud of you!

Attention 8th Grade Parents!

OHS is gearing up for our 2nd Annual 9th grade Camping Trip in the fall. We would like to start fundraising earlier this year and would value your input. The more money we raise, the more scholarship opportunities we will have AND we might even raise enough money to lower the cost of the camp for next year’s 9th graders (your kids J). Please consider attending a “Kick off” meeting for fundraising on December 17 at 6 pm in the office directly across from the OMS gymnasium. It will be best to use the back entrance near the cafeteria. IMPORTANT: By attending the meeting, you will not necessarily be asked to help fundraising efforts…but will be asked for ideas for such efforts. Please contact Anna Starr at astarr@otsegops.org with any questions.

We are looking for gently used running gear that includes tops, bottoms, shoes, spikes, gloves, head buffs, base layers, and old race shirts you don't wear. Thank you for the Gift of Time!

We are so appreciative of the community's support for delayed starts. This time has allowed our teachers the opportunity to work collaboratively, After creating monthly essential learning targets in each department, teachers have been working on creating assessments to insure students have learned the information. This time as allowed teachers to reflect on assessment data so that time is the variable and learning is the constant instead of learning being the variable and time being the constant. As we progress through the 2nd trimester, we will continue working on 3rd trimester monthly essential learning targets.
