Student Athletes achieve All-State Recognition
Walled Lake Central’s Hayley Underwood was crowned with the state’s top honor winning Michigan’s 2022 co-Miss Hockey. Underwood helped lead the Walled Lake Wild to a 12-11 overall record this season and a trip to the second round of the playoffs. The senior defenseman recorded 18 points on 3 goals and 15 assists this season, highlighted by a 3-point performance in a win at Cranbrook on January 15th. Underwood is the first Wild player to win Miss Hockey since Walled Lake Western alumna Julia Barnett in 2018, who’s now playing women’s hockey at Adrian College. Along with Underwood (2nd team), four other Wild players also received All-State honors. Sophomore defenseman Lauren Fox was named first-team All-State. Grace Liotino (’22), Amanda Dunn (’23), and Lauren Willis (’23) were recognized as All-State Honorable Mentions. (Photo: D&L Photography)
