News from this week
Dear Parents,
The students had a great time at the pep rally to kick off the Boosterthon Fundraiser. This is our 1 big fundraiser for the school year. Information on how to register your child online was sent home on Monday. There is a push to have most donations entered online. However, if you prefer to send in cash or a check the office will take care of this. Thanks in advance for supporting Gwin Oaks Elementary School.
We are half way through our Government Unit. I have not been sending much HW. I asked students to study their Government notes each night. There is a Google slide show, Quizlets, and videos on e-Class. This is a content heavy unit. Please remind your child to review notes and visit e-Class. The assessment is Friday, November 16th.
All 4th and 5th grade students are invited to join the Gwin Oaks Witzzle Pro Team. Witzzle Pro is a thinking game that uses multiple math operations. The Witzzle Pro team practices on Friday mornings starting at 7:35 am in Mrs. Webb’s classroom. It is perfectly acceptable for students to arrive via the school bus and come to practice. It is not necessary to drive your child. If you choose to drive, students should be dropped off in the car rider line no earlier than 7:35 am. Our first practice will be Friday, November 30th. We will not have practice on Friday, December 14th. If you have any questions, please mail Mrs. Webb at michelle_webb@gwinnett.k12.ga.us
Please refer to the upcoming events and important dates as we have a busy week next week and leading up to Winter Break.
Please read the information below regarding community service. I have a check off sheet in my classroom, so students can get started whenever they are ready!
We are asking all parents to take a very important survey on the parent portal. Please scroll down to read an important message from Dr. Barlow.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Mrs. Stoffle
Message from Dr. Barlow
The Gwinnett County Public School System is committed to providing students with the best possible education and school experience. We recognize, however, that there is always room for growth and improvement. An excellent way for us to determine how to improve is by asking you. Your response is especially important because you can help us determine where improvements are needed. Please take a few minutes to complete the RBES Parent Survey located on the Parent Portal from October 22, 2018- November 16, 2018. If you need a paper copy of the survey in English or Spanish, please notify your child's teacher. Thank you for taking the time to help us with this important survey. Your participation now will help us to provide even better educational experiences in the future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Barlow
Principal

PBIS
Thank you parents for supporting PBIS here at Gwin Oaks Elementary School. We are off to a GREAT start. As a part of PBIS, recognition and consequences are given to students to support the continual learning of being ready, being respectful, and being responsible. These can be given by classroom teachers, specials teachers, counselor, and administrator. Currently, we have student recognition in the classrooms and will have school wide recognition as well, beginning in the month of October. If a student receives a consequence, it will be consistent and fair. Teachers will ensure students understand the reason for the consequence and he/she should be able to tell you exactly what occurred. There will also be a PBIS form sent home documenting the incident and consequence. If you have a question regarding the situation, please contact the teacher that gave the consequence. Thank you for supporting our efforts by discussing concerns at home. We look forward to continuing our successful year.
