December 20, 2020
Principal's Message
Hello Falcon Families
Happy Winter Break! This has been a really fun week. I appreciate that so many of our students participated in our ASB "Comfy Cozy Winter Welcome" Sprit Week. I hope your family is enjoying a nice weekend and a joyous holiday season.
We are quickly approaching the reopening of our campus to those students who have opted to return on January 19th. There are a lot of changes headed our way as it relates to our school as we transition the next phase of the school year. Below in this newsletter is a lot of important information. Please take an especially close look at:
1. Our new monthly calendar.
2. The new weekly bell schedule.
3. The temporary suspension of on-campus learning & programs January 4th through January 15, 2021.
In the coming weeks I will continue to provide more details on the return to campus including the logistical details for students who will be returning to campus. All information will be included in the weekly newsletter and posted on our website.
I would like to thank this community for all of your love, flexibility, and grace during this exceptionally difficult school year. I cannot thank you enough. The output of support from this community is extraordinary. Neighbors taking care of neighbors, we are one 92127 family and I am so proud to be a part of this community. I hope you are all able to enjoy some quality time with loved ones this holiday season filled with relaxation, fun, and joy.
Thanks for all you do for our Oak Valley Community! Go Falcons!
Beaming with Falcon Pride,
Mr. Young

Reopening Information
Temporary Suspension of On Campus Learning & Programs January 4th through January 15, 2021.
At the last Board of Education meeting, on December 17, the Board voted to temporarily suspend in-person learning for the two weeks following winter break, January 4 through January 15, 2021. All Falcons will learn from home virtually with their existing teachers during these days. It is important to note that we are not closing school or extending winter break. Learning continues, but we are all virtual, district-wide. Please note for families with little ones, ESS will close for these 10 days and all preschool programs will be virtual. More information can be found on the PUSD website HERE.
New Weekly Bell Schedule and Monthly Calendar to Begin On Monday, January 4, 2021
Beginning Monday, January 4th, we will start a new weekly schedule. This is the same schedule that has been posted since the Virtual Forum in October. Students will engage in classes live with their teacher on-campus or via Zoom in the simultaneous teaching model four days a week. On-campus students will be divided into two groups, Group A: Blue Group (last name A-K) and Group B: Grey Group (last name L-Z).
Mondays: Odd Day, periods 1, 3, Connections, 5 (lunch), 7 GROUP A
Tuesdays: Even Day, periods 2, 4, Office Hours, 6 (lunch), 8 GROUP A
Wednesdays: Odd Day, periods 1, 3, Office Hours, 5 (lunch), 7 GROUP B
Thursdays: Even Day, periods 2, 4, Connections, 6 (lunch), 8 GROUP B
Fridays: Asynchronous Day/Independent Student Work
Please see the attached weekly bell schedule HERE and below.
There is also a new monthly calendar attached HERE and below. We will follow this same weekly schedule pattern for the reminder of the year, unless the school board changes our current school model, with the exception of a few weeks where we have to adjust for holidays. Please look at both of these documents closely.
For now, the only thing to remember is that on Monday January 4th, your student will start their school day at 8:30am in Period 1.
Fridays: Asynchronous Independent Work Days
On Fridays, students will be engaged in asynchronous independent work days. This was reviewed at the school board meeting on 11/12/20 and 12/17/20. Students should have approximately 40 minutes of work to do for each class, and their attendance will be taken for the day based on this work completion, per the school board presentation.
Fridays For Students:
· Review and preview work from the week to deepen learning
· Review feedback and complete corrections
· Independent learning time
· Reduce screen time
· Additional support time with peers and staff
Fridays For Teachers:
· Provide timely feedback to students; including grades
· Review assessments and plan based on student needs
· Complete required COVID attendance tracking
· Collaboration
· Professional learning
· Connect and provide support to individual students
