From Principal Meyer
Dear LMS families,
We were very excited to see a bustling first night of Winter Conferences on Thursday. Thank you for your partnership as we have 77% of our students represented in our Winter Conference sign-ups as of today. There are more slots available on Tuesday and Thursday if you have not yet had the chance to sign-up. You can do so at this HelpatSchools.com link.
Forgive me while I brag on The House of PRIDE a bit as the The LMS Difference is in full effect these days. Did you know that LMS is ranked in the top five of all public, neighborhood middle schools in the state of Colorado by niche.com? Now, these ranking systems are far from an exact science but they obviously know a good thing when they see it! With that said, I recently had the opportunity to present some data to our BVSD district leaders and I thought it is worthwhile sharing with you all as well. A sample of some points of PRIDE from our measures of student learning and student feelings of belonging:
Students demonstrated excellent growth on our mid-year math assessments. On the MathIXL diagnostic assessment, we saw an 62% increase in the number of students who demonstrated proficiency “at or above” grade level!
Our mid-year literacy assessment, CommonLit, also indicated strong growth with an increase in scores which put us well on target for us to meet our identified measures of student learning and growth.
Our students took an annual survey in December and the average LMS student responses were consistently above district averages (and well above national averages) across each of the three domains of Engagement, Environment, and Safety. Responses were consistently the 90th(plus) percentiles across subdomains!
It is indeed a great day to be a Pirate! Our kids and adults are active, engaged, and growing and we are proud to be the guides for our Pirates’ journey. We have great outcomes and we know we always need to push and demonstrate continuous improvement to meet the ever changing needs of our kids.
Thank you for being part of the team and your continued support. If you have questions about the information I shared above or any other aspects of our school, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Chris Meyer,
Principal
Some accomplishments worth sharing that happen beyond the traditional school day?
This past weekend, we had four teams, representing all three grade levels, qualify for the Colorado/Wyoming Optimist Brain Bowl Championship Tournament. They represented us extremely well.
Our 8th grade basketball seasons ended with our girl’s and boy’s teams as BVSD district champs! We have three total teams between the boys and girls seasons and they combined for 17 wins and 1 loss!
Our bands have been rocking lately as they led the way in the Louisville/Superior combined middle level Jazz Dance and Concert last weekend and then followed up with an outstanding 6th, 7th, and 8th grade performance on Thursday night!

Missing Assignment Reports
We are glad to report that we now have the ability to send weekly notifications to families if their students have one or more missing assignments listed in Infinite Campus. This is a tool for you to use with your students to support them. Our first round of missing assignment reports went out on Feb. 9th.
Thank you for reviewing these reports if/when you get them while knowing that they should not be considered a substitute for checking IC and regular ongoing conversations you are having with your kids about all aspects of their school work.
- Parent & Staff Night Out! See the flyer below for more information about a fun evening planned at Tilt on Sunday, March 5th for LMS parents and staff.
