BYOT in Action!

Kim Thompson's sixth grade ELA Reading students use their devices to scan QR codes which are linked to online book reviews. Students then use the information to complete the task at each station around the classroom. Students who do not have their own devices can "huddle" to benefit from collaborative learning or use a school-owned device. Check out our district's BYOT blog to see more videos of "Bring Your Own Technology" in action: Students and teachers engage with technology daily to enhance their learning experiences. In addition, Glenview is in the process of identifying a school theme. In the upcoming school year, we will visit some schools like ours to help us determine a theme that fits our vision of preparing students for success in the 21st century and one that helps us continue to serve the educational needs of our diverse student population and community.

Faculty BBall Game and "AIM" Food Drive

Glenview and McCants (East) are teaming up to compete against Robert Anderson and Lakeside (West) in two ways: Bring canned goods or monetary donations to school to support "Anderson Interfaith Ministries" the week of March 18th-22nd. Then, come out to see faculty members from these A5 middle schools compete in a basketball game at the Glenview gym on Friday, March 22nd at 5:30 p.m. Admission is 10 canned food items or $2. The winning school in the canned food drive for AIM will be announced at half-time.

Preparing for Common Core State Standards

Over the past few years, the majority of U.S. states have participated in the development of a common set of content standards to be taught in each grade level. This is beneficial because it helps to level the playing field across the nation in education and provides greater consistency, rigor, and accountability in what and how we teach. The upcoming school year (2013-2014) is a "bridge" year which means we will still be teaching most SC state standards which align to common core, plus incorportating as many of the new common core standards as possible so there are no gaps in knowledge when we move to full common core implementation the following school year (2014-2015).
