Curriculum Highlight: Fountas & Pinnell Classroom
As part of a district-wide curriculum refresh, District 15 is piloting new literacy curriculum and materials in select grade K-3 classrooms this school year.
Fountas & Pinnell Classroom (FPC) is a cohesive, multi-text approach to literacy instruction. The system is designed to support whole-group, small-group and independent learning opportunities.
Teachers and students have reported a positive experience using the curriculum during its pilot year. Teacher Heather Howard said students have been thrilled to explore new texts as part of FPC.
"I can't tell you how much I love this curriculum, more importantly, how excited my students are! These books are strengthening my students’ connections across cultures, text, and creating a genuine love for reading," Howard said.
All K-3 classrooms will implement FPC in the 2019-20 school year, with a broader curriculum roll-out over the next two school years.
March 3-9 is School Social Work Week!
The week of March 3-9 2019 marks the celebration of School Social Work Week (SSWW).
With the 2019 SSWW theme "Lucky Enough!" school social workers across the district are recognized for their critically important role in helping students every day to meet the academic, social, and emotional challenges on the road to becoming successful and productive young adults.
Please join the District 15 students, families, and school staff in saluting our school social workers and celebrating their valuable contributions to our school district!
Second-annual Speech Festival is April 13
More than 200 students in grades 4-8 have signed up to participate in this event, a significant increase in participation from 2018. The Speech Festival was created in collaboration with District 211 to give students public speaking and speech experience. District 15 students are working with community and staff mentors to prepare a reading of their choice for the festival.
The 2019 event will be held at Palatine High School. District 15 is grateful for the opportunity to partner with District 211 to bring this exciting program to our students.
Ensure receipt of D15 text messages
In some cases, T-Mobile is blocking the codes used by D15, resulting in parents and staff members not receiving text message notifications. Codes are used by organizations that utilize mass texting systems. A code appears in place of a phone number when a text message is sent.
If you are a T-Mobile customer (only applicable to parents and/or staff members) and have not been receiving district text messages, please contact T-Mobile and ask them to "unblock" the following codes:
- 60680
- 54968
T-Mobile is aware of the issue and will know how to unblock the codes from individual accounts when asked. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
