A Note From the Principal
Dear East Middle School Students, Parents, and Guardians:
Fall is finally really here, and we are loving it. The weather was perfect for the football game against Belton yesterday, and we had a great crowd.
Academics are rolling and while we witness some healthy struggle with students when things get more challenging, we also still see smiles on their faces while they work through the process. Along with the academic content, students are also focusing on some of the soft skills such as listening and collaborating with their peers. While in an Academic Skills class the other day, students even discussed the topic of procrastination and how to combat it in our daily lives.
Advisory teachers passed out MAP reports to students, along with a letter from me, about the MAP reports from last spring today. We have a few students who are missing their reports, but that might be because the student is new to the district or that their report is still in transit. They should be arriving soon if they are from within the district. We thank you, parents, for your support and help with getting students here on time for the NWEA testing that took place this last week. All students finished. More information will be sent home in the next few weeks about NWEA results.
Just a reminder that at all home high school football games, our middle school students, when not sitting with parents, will be seated in the reserved middle school section. For safety and supervision reasons, students will not longer be allowed to linger on the concrete patio outside of the bleacher area.
Sincerely,
Katie Campbell

Welcome to EMS! Morning and Afternoon Procedures
We will begin to welcome students into the building starting at 7:10 AM.
- When 8th and 7th grade enter, they be ushered into the gym. 8th grade will sit on one side of the gym, and 7th grade will sit on the other. Teachers are in the gym to help supervise and dismiss students.
- When 6th grade students enter, Team 6A will be ushered to the auxiliary gym, while Team 6B will be ushered to the carpeted area in the pod. Students are supervised in their respective areas.
- Students who want breakfast will report to the cafeteria.
- There are teacher supervisors in the hallways to help direct traffic.
- If a student receives a pass from the teacher to visit in the morning, he/ she will be able to report directly to their teacher once entering the building.
- Students also have access to the library both before and after school.
Our first bell rings at 7:25, and students are in a staggered dismissal to ensure that hallways are relatively clear. This will give students 10 minutes of time to get to their lockers, unpack, use the restroom and then report to their first hour by 7:35AM.
Our EMS students have done an excellent job over the last two weeks! Keep up the great work!
After-School Events Attendance
Students are expected to remain in the stands during the games unless utilizing restroom or concessions. Middle school students will have a designated section in the south end zone on the field and will have access to the nearby visitor concessions and restrooms.

PAWS Tutoring Program will be Back on October 4th
Some Guidance For Students Who Participate in PAWS:
1. Most likely, teachers will initiate the PAWS support for students.
2. Students will be able to practice their academics with support, but this isn't a time for one-on-one tutoring.
3. If your student is a car-rider, he/ she will need to be picked up by 4:40PM.
4. We encourage parents to collaborate with teachers on the purpose of the time, while the goal is to complete work with guidance, it is not a guarantee that students finish between 3:00-4:30PM.
There will be late bus service for students who stay after school. A teacher will be on-hand for extra academic support.

On Sept. 19, the Strategic Planning Committee continued to review school district data and began to plan for ways to gather community feedback. This was the second meeting for the committee, which has been formed to help determine "What's next for Ray-Pec?"
Laura Howard and Patty Gentrup from the University of Kansas Public Management Center guided the group in discussion about the public engagement portions of the process. The committee is developing a draft list of focus areas and strategies for the public to consider. Community members may suggest other ideas during the feedback process.
Mark your calendars for an October 26 public forum to learn more. The committee plans to share information about the planning process and initial ideas for focus areas and strategies. The forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Ray-Pec High School. In addition to the forum, the committee also plans to use surveys to gather community feedback. What three traits do you think make you a valuable asset to the Husky pack: Adaptable, Tradition, Organizer
Tell one thing or share a personal experience about yourself that most people wouldn’t believe or don’t know about you: When I was in 5th-7th grade, I played in the boys tackle football league in Cass County. I played quarterback, running back on offense and was a linebacker on defense. I suffered a severe concussion in 7th grade and was told by my soccer coach that I needed to choose either football or soccer. My senior year in high school, I was asked if I wanted to kick for the Varsity football team, but I had already committed to play soccer in college and my coach said absolutely not!! If I could go back, I would have played my senior year, which was also Ray-Pec's 3rd consecutive State Championship!!
