Second Grade

May/June Newsletter

"Time Flies When You Are Having Fun"

Wow! We can't believe it is May already. This year has been going by so quickly. With all of the exciting things we have done this year, some new and some old, alongside the fantastic enthusiasm of our classes, we have accomplished so much! We look forward to ending the year with the same excitement and more incredible accomplishments!

Social Studies

Colonial America

From now until the end of the year, we have many exciting activities planned to finish our unit on Colonial America. We are lucky to live in a area full of enrichment and opportunities to enhance our learning. We will be taking a walking tour of Newtown, locating and reporting on historical buildings. We will be planning and preparing for Colonial Day on June 9th, and are looking forward to our visit to Pennsbury Manor on May 3rd. Keep a look out for reminders and more information as the year draws to an end.

End of Year Projects

In May and June, we will be putting in a lot of time with a variety of End of Year projects. These projects include a script for our Brainpop video, and others for special people who have helped to make second grade successful and memorable. The children will have choices to write in many of the various ways we have practiced this year, including small moments, non-fiction, poetry and much more!

Mini Units

We'll be completing our year learning about fractions, time, capacity, and graphs. These units are short units. We will continue using manipulatives and the skills we used all year for the remainder of the units. Please continue to go over multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction facts at home.

Practice and Review

As we wrap up the end of the year in reading, we'll be using strategies taught all year and applying them to read alouds and independent reading books. If time permits, we will do more work with book clubs. In addition, we will be doing research on the buildings in Newtown for our walking tour of Historic Newtown.
