Honoring Our Veterans on Memorial Day

There is no school Monday, May 31 for it is Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May. On this day we honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It was originally known as Decoration Day, and it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.

We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Seeking Students for Youth Advisory Boards

Our high school students are invited to serve on the Lake Oswego Youth Advisory Boards to gain real-world experience serving on an advisory committee or board. In addition to giving back to our community, this is something students can site on college applications, job resumes, or count towards volunteer credits for school.

The City Council will be appointing one youth member to six advisory boards, including the Historic Resources Advisory Board, Library Advisory Board, Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Advisory Board, Transportation Advisory Board, and two youth members to the Sustainability Advisory Board and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Board. For more information on becoming a voting member of an advisory board, please complete the following requirements:

Only current juniors and sophomores who are residents of the City of Lake Oswego should apply. Applications will be accepted until May 31 on the City website. Interviews will be in mid-June, with term dates running from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

Applications and additional information are available at www.ci.oswego.or.us under Boards and Commissions. Please contact Kenny Hallquist, Deputy City Recorder at khallquist@lakeoswego.city or 503-675-3984.

Hunger Fighters is also hiring. It's currently in the process of searching for its first Executive Director to manage the pantry for a part-time position, starting as soon as possible. Find all the information here: HFO - We're Hiring

Please Verify Your Student's Information

Beginning April 30, LOSD needs parents-guardians of all students enrolled for the 2021-22 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:

  • Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
  • Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.
  • Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook and Technology Agreement.

If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact your student's school. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.
