Our monthly focus...Diversity and Holiday Traditions
It's hard to believe we are headed into the month of December! Our monthly focus consists of two concepts. One focus challenges students to spread kindness like snowflakes, while the other focuses on our school's diversity and family holiday traditions!
Each family is invited to create an ornament sharing the holiday(s) you celebrate in your home. Some families may celebrate Hanukkah, while others celebrate Kwanzaa, Christmas or both! We would love for families to share their holiday traditions with our students and staff. Ornaments will be displayed around our school's atrium windows in a "tree farm" for all to see, enjoy and learn from. This is a wonderful way to celebrate our school's diversity and learn from one another.
Please send your family's ornament back to school on Monday, December 5th! Directions and patterns have been sent home with your child in their backpack. You can be as simple as a drawing with crayons and markers-or you can get fancy and creative with pictures, cultural flags or other objects found at home! Have fun with this!
We look forward to seeing special guests, family and friends at our upcoming holiday concert on December 16th! Students songs will be sure to get you into the holiday spirit!
It's going to be a great month of learning and growing together!

Care Plus Program and Upcoming Lessons
Throughout the month of December, all our elementary school students will be participating in a school wide lesson titled “We are all different, we are all the same.” This lesson will be conducted in their classroom by our school building Care Plus clinician, Miss Kirsty Kilminster. During this lesson students will watch the video “Acceptance is my Super Power” along with a discussion about the ways that students can be different. Following this discussion, students will create a puzzle piece all about what makes them special and unique.
The class lesson will conclude with a conversation about how our differences make our classroom complete. The puzzle pieces will be put together on display in their classroom to remind students that their differences are all an important piece of their classroom community. Should you have any further questions regarding this lesson, please feel free to contact clinical program manager Stephanie Domnitz at sdomnitz@fairlawnschools.org.
