Global Read Aloud
The book is a wonderful story about a young girl in Pakistan. So many fascinating discussions have come about through this book. Make sure to ask your child about the book so far!
Flipgrid
This is an excellent tool to teach proper digital manners and how to respond to other people's ideas.
As a safety precaution, all students have been taught not to include their last name, address, or any identifiable information (snapchats, gamer tags, youtube channels, etc.). Before all videos are posted, I have to approve them as an administrator. Please have your student show you what they have been posting! If you have any questions or concerns about this tool, please ask me!

5th Grade - A Review of a Week of Learning!
Language Arts - This week has been a mostly normal week of Wonders. We have worked on spelling, reading, and vocabulary daily, as well as continuing to work on written responses. I have been challenging the students with questions about how authors structure arguments and stories. This is tough for students to do, especially at the beginning. We will keep working on it. If students need extra help to redo assignments, please have them let me know!
Social Studies - We have moved on from the Preamble to start talking about our Government. We have discussed the similarities and differences between a democracy and a republic.
Reminder: students can come in before or after school to redo their preamble quiz if necessary!
6th Grade - A Review of a Week of Learning!
Language Arts - This week, we had seemingly a normal week of Language Arts. The entire class had a tough time with a writing assignment on Tuesday, so we spent a lot of time Wednesday reteaching and redoing that assignment. It is the assignment about volcanoes and the article "Monster in the Mountain". The prompt asked them to show how the author used text features to show the effects of volcanoes. Many students tried to tell me about volcanoes, but that is not what the prompt is about. This sort of questioning the author's choices is essential in the Common Core standards.
Look for this assignment in the Friday Folder.
Arch Rock Discussion - Our class had a discussion about when Arch Rock will fall down. According to the kids, it will fall down any moment, definitely within the next 10 years! I was pushing the kids to try to get information from a credible source, not simply a tour guide or a random state park worker. We ended up sending a letter to the director of the state park, Phil Porter. We are hoping to hear back from him about our inquiry.
