Network Topology

Bus Network

Advantages and Disadvantages

  • It is easy to set up and extend it

  • Cable length required for this topology is the least compared to other networks.

  • Bus topology costs very less.

  • Linear Bus network is mostly used in small networks. Good for LAN.

  • If the main cable brakes the whole thing brakes
  • It is slow because of date collisions
  • It has a high security risk

A bus network is an order in a local area network (LAN) in which each computer is connected to a main cable or link called the bus. The illustration shows a bus network with five devices. Each devise is shown as a circle, the bus appears as a strait line, connections to the bus appear as vertical lines.
