Math Vocab Lists in Quizlet
Quizlet is a user-friendly site where students can learn, study, and practice their academic vocabulary with on-line flashcards, quizzes, and games. Students can also download the free Quizlet app onto personal devices to be able to study on-the-go.
The Tier 1 Priority for math emphasizes the use of vocabulary on word walls. It would be best for math teachers to use these Quizlet lists as starting points for smaller, chunked vocabulary practice. For example, pick the words that your students most need to practice and then delete all the other words from the longer study sets.
Word Wall Resource
Teachers can copy study sets in their own free Quizlet accounts and then modify any of the definitions or words. Some teachers also like to print out the flashcards on card stock for a hands-on review of the terms or for work in tutorials. The "large card" print option can also become part of an interactive word wall activity.
ELL Support
Language learners also appreciate the audio component to Quizlet where they can hear the words pronounced while they are working with the words. And, Quizlet has a collaborative game function that also helps with 3 of the 4 SIOP needs of ELLs, called QuizletLive. Students have to work in groups and to win, thye must read the words, say the words, and listen to each other. Click below to get more information on this interactive function.
iPad apps for Vocabulary!
Tellagami is a fun app where students can record a message and include text. This makes the traditional "use-your-vocab-word-in-a-sentence" activity more interactive and engaging when they share their Gamis with the class.
Skitch is a quick drawing app that allows students to take a picture (of a vocab word or a Frayer Model of a word) and then draw on it to explain it.
