Ms. Cameron's Newsletter ~ Fall 2020

Hello Chatfield Families!

My name is Ms. Cameron and I am the school counselor at Chatfield Elementary. It is wonderful to be back at school seeing the faces of all of my students and colleagues. This is definitely the most unique school year so far, but I'm thankful to have everyone back together again for in-person learning.

This is the first newsletter of a series that is meant to help families be more aware of the services provided by the school counseling department at Chatfield, as well as keep you informed about any news or changes.

Also, I have a new website! You are welcome to learn more about these services, such as classroom lessons, small groups, referrals, resources and more! https://sites.google.com/d51schools.org/chatfieldelementary/home

Classroom Lessons

School Counseling Lessons are Now Virtual!

All counseling lessons will be provided in a virtual format, allowing students to receive social-emotional lessons within the safety of their classroom (cohort). During each lesson, students will have the opportunity to learn and practice positive coping skills, such as deep breathing, mindfulness, gratitude, identifying their trusted support network and more. Here is a tentative outline of topics students will be learning about:

Lesson 1: Intro to the School Counselor (What Does a School Counselor Do Anyway?)

Lesson 2: Big Feelings and Positive Coping Skills

Lesson 3: Mindfulness

Lesson 4: The Brain

Lesson 5: Not Yet is OK! (Growth Mindset)

Lesson 6: Determination and Grit

Lesson 7: Self-Talk

Lesson 8: Celebrate Diversity

Lessons 9-18: TBD (Personal Safety, Conflict Resolution, Problem-Solving Skills, Career-Readiness, Middle School Prep [5th grade])

Parents, I will be doing my best to upload all of the lesson videos to the school counseling website. Please contact me if you have any issues accessing it or have questions!

About Me

I grew up in the Mid-West and have lived in Colorado for 14 years. My husband is a 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Grand Mesa Middle School, and we have 4 children in preschool, elementary, middle, and high school. Some of my favorite things to do besides hanging out with my family or friends is traveling, hiking, paddle-boarding, and listening to music. I LOVE my job and wouldn't change it for the world!
