Distance Learning Information
A Note about Distance Learning
The material will give you an opportunity to expand and build upon the skills and content that you have already learned and prepare you for the following years in your school career. Furthermore, this will provide you with an opportunity to increase your grade from now until the end of the year.
Tips for Success
1. Encourage your students to check for their assignments regularly.
2. Develop a daily routine.
3. Make a plan for what classes/assignments you are going to work on for which day/time.
4. Make sure you are double checking your work and hitting "SUBMIT."
5. Take breaks and find time for activity on a daily basis.
The faculty and staff at Pence fully understands that these are unique times and families may be experiences hardships and challenges. Due to circumstance, it may be difficult for a student to be able to complete all of his/her assignments. We do not want this to be an unnecessary stressor nor get to the point of major frustration. Please do what you can. Any amount that you can do will be valuable.
Paper Packets:
Paper packets are available only for students wo do not have internet access. They will be distributed in two installments. The first installment went out this past Thursday. The second installment will go out the week of May 4th. Completed packets can be turned in that same week and again during the week of May 25th. More specific days/times will be announced.
However, the online model is the preferred model for all other students because it allows for student/teacher feedback and decreases the amount of exposures for students/teachers alike.
Grading:
Students' grades from the 3rd 9-weeks will carry over throughout the entire second semester. Students will have the opportunity to raise that grade by turning in late/missing work without penalty and completing the new learning modules for extra credit. In essence, the student's grade as of March 13th can only be improved upon for the second semester. There will not be a 9-weeks report card sent home. Please make sure you are checking your student's PowerSchool account.

Please feel free to call the school between 8 am and 4 pm with any questions.
A Message From Our Counselors
Career Exploration
Our world has suddenly changed in unexpected ways and it’s unclear how what impact the COVID-19 pandemic will have long term. As we heal as a community, we will adapt and find new ways to accomplish the goals important to us and to prosper. What role do you want to play in shaping our future? In the link below you will find a Prezi that includes a career exploration activity that focuses on clarifying your own preferences for interacting with the world around you. Big change can start with little steps. As we continue to work and learn from home, it’s a good time to reflect on how you want to change our future.
The people around us, our experiences and our community impact our life paths. When considering career paths, one of the best ways to learn new information is to look to those in our lives. Ms. Shank agreed to answer some questions about her career path. Find out what influenced her career journey by reading the “Career Spotlight” included below!

Counseling Hotline Number
Many of us may be struggling more with our mood during this time. A wonderful resource became available this week that allows people to call counselors in the Shenandoah Valley anonymously. The information is included below:
Counselors in the Shenandoah Area have created a hotline to help support those of us who are struggling with our mood and emotions. Calls can be made anonymously. The hotline is open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 7 p.m., until 10 p.m., and from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. for Spanish speakers.

Chromebook Help!
Pence Families-
I wanted to share the plan for providing ongoing technology support to students for the next couple of months. Students/families can request remote tech help using this Google Form. It is linked at technology.rockingham.k12.va.us. Tech staff will reach out to families via email or phone and try to troubleshoot remotely. If tech staff deems that a replacement charger or device is needed, then they will direct families to call the school's main office to arrange a device and/or charger pick up.
Sincerely-
Pence Administrative Team
