Marching Band Camp

We look forward to having band camp and the chance for our students to have a sense of normalcy to begin the year. We, the WSMB staff, are committed to providing a safe environment where we can continue to participate in the activity we love, marching band! Please take a look at some guidelines and general information about the week.

We know that some people have had concerns regarding the revised scheduled. We know that this may make it difficult for some families. If there is an issue, please contact/email your child's director.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up
- Please drop your student off at the normal band room doors stadium side
- We will be doing temperature checks upon arrival during the evening sessions starting Aug 6th
- Do not drive away until your child is clear
- Be sure your child is wearing a mask upon arrival
Pick-Up
- We will be doing staggered dismissals for the kids to help keep social distancing
- We are asking parents to remain in or near your car when you arrive to pick up your child
- Please DO NOT congregate at the hill as we normally would during band camp for drill down and a final run of the show. We are trying to keep everyone as safe as possible - that includes families.
Band Camp Info & Procedures
General Information
- All students must wear masks upon arrival to Cedar Cliff
- Students must remain with masks ON until instructor indicates that it is OK to remove it with proper distancing in place
- Student MUST bring their own water/container
- Students will be monitored at all times
Temperature Checks
- We will be issuing temperatures checks on the 6th, 7th & 10th - 14th during the evening practice session each day as an extra precaution
- Students with a temperature of 100.4 (CDC regulation) will be asked to go home.
- If you are dropping of your child, please do not leave until this process is complete
- We will have tent in the evening (as we normally do at band camp)
- Students must wear a mask when approaching and while you are at the tent
Bathroom Monitoring
Cafeteria Bathroom Only entering through Band Door Only
One male and one female student in their respected bathrooms with mask on at a time
Students will have to wait outside socially distanced from one another
Bathroom/Band door will be monitored by Parent/Med Tent
Rain Plan
If there is a very high percent chance of rain, we will most likely cancel that session
We hope to make the evening rain call by 4:00pm and the morning session by 8:00pm
If we happen to get caught in the rain, students will report to the main concourse in Cedar Cliff with masks on and the staff will ensure students remain socially distant from one another.
If a session is canceled we will try to pursue a Zoom option for part of the session
Instruments
Student must take and bring equipment home each night (winds/guard)
There will be a designated storage area for percussion/larger wind instruments
Rehearsal
- The staff is committed to using the entire outdoor campus to ensure social distancing
- Students will be monitored at all times and during breaks

School Activity Fee
- If you haven't turned in a check for this, please hold on
- The district is working on creating an online option
- Because of our season, we are seeing if we might be able to modify the school activity payment
- We have not cashed these checks yet if you have turned them in
Marching Band Registration
- We are asking families to pay your registration fee if you haven't done so
- We are holding checks that have been turned in to cash until next week
- Registration goes towards purchased gear, t-shirts, and other expenses.
- We are still having a season and we are going to do our best to provide a great experience. for our kids
Free Grab-and-Go Bagged Meals – Now Offering Dinner!
Throughout the summer months, the West Shore School District will continue to offer Free Grab-and-Go Bagged Meals containing lunch and breakfast for the following day, at four designated schools.
In addition, beginning July 29 and running through August 14, a free packed dinner and breakfast for the following day, will be offered at three District schools. Examples of dinner items include pizza, corn dogs, chicken patties, and chicken fajitas.
All children 18 and younger, regardless of their district of residence or economic status, are welcome to participate. While the child does not need to be present during pick up, parents may be asked to provide the name(s) and grade(s) of children for whom the meals are being collected.
Families may walk to the locations or take advantage of curbside service where available. If driving, please remain in your vehicle.

Masks should be worn when picking up meals and/or approaching the distribution areas. If walking, practice social distancing at all times and follow CDC recommended hygiene practices.

Through our partnership with Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, church volunteers distribute meals in Room 229 of the Budget Inn in New Cumberland.
