Jackson School News

October, 2017

STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. We are all about adding in STEAM opportunities for every Jackson Jaguar! To that end, we are looking for volunteers to run STEAM after school clubs. Some possibilities:

  • Gardening
  • Coding
  • Additional robotics teams
  • Destination Imagination
  • Other STEAM-related skills you have that you can share with students

Please contact Julie McClain for more information and to volunteer. Mcclaiju@hsd.k12.or.us

Recess Clothing

Since there is so much rain in NW Oregon, we try to have recess rain or shine! We do have an under cover area, but it is inevitable that someone will run through a puddle or decide the temptation of the new playground is worth getting wet. Umbrellas are not conducive to recess play, so they will stay inside.

If you do not want your child to go out to recess, please send notes. Otherwise, please send appropriate layers and a change of socks for that backpack.

Parent Ambassadors

If you are new to Jackson and want a little guidance to navigate our traditions and routines, we have a parent who wants to help you! Please contact the principal or the counselor to get connected with one of our Parent Ambassadors. Whether you want to know who the teachers are, what a Fun Run is, or how to get information, this is a great option for you!

Parents are welcome to refer their child for services designed for students identified as talented and gifted. Students who score at or above the 97th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test of overall reading or math or on a mental abilities test, and have other confirming evidence that they learn at a rapid rate and advanced level, are identified as TAG students. With parent input, individual plans are made to adjust the rate and level of the student’s instruction to meet his or her specific needs.

If you think your child may qualify for TAG services, and want information about the referral and identification process, please contact Allison Combs, Dean of Students/TAG Coordinator: cameram@hsd.k12.or.us.

Con las sugerencias del padre, se hacen planes individuales para ajustar la proporción y nivelar dela instrucción del estudiantes para satisfacer sus necesidades específicas.
