The Professional Development Plan in the Comp. Plan
Q: What is the difference between "Language and Literacy Acquisition for All Students" and "Structured Literacy", understanding that SL targets specific certifications?
A: Everyone must have Language and Literacy Acquisition training in their Act 48 Plan. If they have Structured Literacy training, then this would cover the Language and Literacy requirement. There is a possibility that a part-time CTC would not have anyone who requires Structured Literacy training; therefore, they would need to offer another type of Language and Literacy training.

Chief Science Officer Program - HS Leadership & Science Opportunity
We are pleased to announce that we are launching a Chief Science Officers Program for the 2023-2024 school year. CSOs are students in 6th to 12th grade and will become liaisons for STEM and innovation in their schools and community.
CSOs and their advisor will attend a two-day Leadership Training Institute on September 25 and 26 in Bradford, PA.
For more details regarding the CSO program, please review this overview and frequently asked questions document. Also, you may wish to watch any or all of the short videos below.
If you are interested in learning more about this amazing opportunity, click here to get started: CSO Interest 2023-2024! Please complete this form ASAP to begin your CSO journey. (Note: schools do not need to have students identified before they complete this form, this is only an interest form)
Penn West Clarion Science Camp for HS Students
This fall, the Clarion Honors Program will be sponsoring a series of Science Day Camps for students (freshmen, sophomores, or seniors) interested in learning more about wildlife biology and laboratory techniques.
- The sessions take place on September 16 and 17, October 14 and 15, and November 4 and 5 and cover a wide range of instruction in the biology of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals as well as having students look into DNA and microbiology as well as providing students with environmental field experience.
Students are invited to attend all six sessions, however, each day represents a stand-alone set of materials so students may attend as many or as few sessions as they wish. The registration fee is $10 per session however this fee is refundable if the student shows up.
The primary instructors, Dr. Helen Hampikian and Dr. Kurt Register, are leading research scientists in environmental biology and microbiology so this gives interested students a mechanism to gain some experience in biology outside the normal curriculum.
Here is a brochure describing the program along with an application packet. Please pass this on to students you believe can benefit most from this experience. We have a limit of 20 for each session, so earlier applications will be given preference.
