What We Learned

Last week's question asked how many books your child has in their library. As the graph shows, a lot of our students have books at their fingertips. What a great thing! Did you know that reading researchers suggest that a given classroom should have near 2000 books? Think about the options your child can have in the classroom with that many books!

We're going to try to connect your child with more books and with hearing books read to them. Thanks for your input. It gives us a great starting point!

The Question of the Week

Did you miss the WATCHDOGS program? No worries, just click below to see how you can still get involved.

Spencer Family Book Fair

Our Family Book Fair is the first week in February. We have two family nights and two Lunch with a Loved One events. Family nights will run from 4:00-8:00pm on Monday 2/4/19 and Tuesday 2/5/19. Lunch with a Loved One is on Wednesday 2/6/19 and Thursday 2/7/19 and will run during our regular lunch hours. How does it work? You come and shop at the Book Fair during their lunch recess and then you go to lunch with your student. Lunch schedule

Students will not be allowed to shop on their own. If you cannot attend our Lunch with a Loved One events and you would like for your student to shop during lunch recess please send their money in an envelope with a note stating that you would like Mrs. Adams to be their adult for shopping.

Volunteers are needed for setup and breakdown PLUS during our Book Fairs. Please sign-up here.

If you have questions email Mrs. Adams

Girls On The Run

Girls on the Run

We desperately need volunteer coaches for Girls on the Run. This is a 10 week program from March-May for 3rd and 4th grade girls. You don't have to be a runner to coach! Dads and high school students are also welcome to coach! Registration opens for girls on 1/21. There is financial aid available for all students.

Visit for more information. Please contact Heather ASAP if you are interested in coaching our Spencer girls: 313-414-1097 or

The program is in jeopardy. It will not run without coaches. Please volunteer if you can.

Movie Night

Join us for family movie night sponsored by the PTO. We will show Hotel Transylvania 3 in the gym. Bring a pillow and blanket if you'd like. Parents must stay with their students. This is not a drop off event. One bag of popcorn will be provided. Additional popcorn, drinks and candy will be sold. The girl scouts will host a bake sale. Join us for a fun night on Thursday, January 24th at 6pm.

Join us on Tuesday, February 5th, from 6:30-8:00 for Spencer's STEAM Night! Come and enjoy hand-on science activities and check out our "Student Showcase" where budding scientists will have projects on display. In addition, there will be challenges in the Design Center to participate in. Scranton Robotics and Sylvan Learning Center will also have activities. Don't forget to take a walk through the school to see the artwork displayed and stop and support our Media Center at the Book Fair! Lots of fun for the whole family - don't miss it!

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS and we need many for this to run! Please sign up to help at this fun event (older siblings, middle/high school kids, neighbors, etc):

Also, Mrs. Adams needs volunteers for the book fair:

Jim Basketball Jones

On Friday, Feb. 8 at 9:30, all students will enjoy a PTO sponsored assembly starring Jim Basketball Jones. Jim brings not only great basketball tricks fitting our All Star theme, but also an inspirational experience with a character matters message. To learn more about Jim visit his website:
