Gator Family Smore
Youens News and Notes, October 2021
Welcome Back to our Super Youens Family!
We are wrapping up our first grading period and are excited to move into October! Students are learning and growing, and our Youens staff are working diligently to help students with both recovery learning to fill any gaps, as well as accelerate learning to make sure we are working on grade level standards every day. Your help is appreciated with keeping open communication with your teachers and with the school.
One area we would like to share as vitally important and the first step to success is attendance! Being on time and at school every day ensures your students do not miss any learning time.
Our instruction begins at 7:55, and we ask that students be here by 7:45 in order to get to class and get ready for the day. If your student would like to eat breakfast, our building opens at 7:20 for breakfast in the cafeteria.
We appreciate your efforts in getting your students here and on time every day!
Sincerely,
Dr. Brixey
Principal, Youens Elementary

School Events and Calendar
This year we will not have a Fall Festival due to the size and the risk for Covid exposure for families and staff. We will look at doing a Festival in the spring. We will have smaller campus events as we move forward, and we are working to get those added to the calendar. We also have the Family Center open and ready to serve our parents! Look for a schedule for the Family Center to come home soon! We also would love to have parent volunteers on our campus every dat, and there is a link in this flyer to sign up to volunteer for Youens!

Covid Testing and Reporting Requirements
We have safety measures in place to assist in reducing the spread of Covid-19. Students are testing positive at a much higher rate with the Delta variant, so we do ask that if your student is exhibiting Covid symptoms, please get tested. Testing is free for staff and students through Crump stadium every day as an easy option.
- If a student tests positive: please alert us immediately and quarantine your student for a period of 10 days (this is required by Alief as recommended by the CDC); please report to our school nurse by calling 281-983-8383, and fill out this link: https://form.jotform.com/riskmgnt/studentreporting
- At this time the district will not quarantine for direct contacts, but we will share if your student is considered a direct contact so you can monitor for symptoms
- Custodial will deep clean if someone does test positive in the building
- There are vaccination clinics across the Alief and Houston area to get vaccination for ages 12 and older.
