PTO MEETING RESCHEDULED TO NEXT TUESDAY, JANUARY 12TH
Happy Epiphany and Welcome Back!
I hope you're excited to start school again tomorrow morning. We are ready to welcome you back and hear how your Christmas vacation was. I hope everyone had a restful and safe break from school and are rested and ready to dive into learning!
We are pleased to announce an addition to our faculty. You can read more about Mrs. Bratcher, the new 2nd & 3rd grade homeroom teacher below. We are excited to have her mathematics expertise and will be restructuring some of our classes to make the best use of the resources in our building. More information will be coming over the next two weeks.
Please note that we have a very special event at the end of this week at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. The diocesan annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Mass will be held this Friday at 7pm with a reception immediately following. We encourage all of our families to attend this important event.
Don't forget to join us on Tuesday, January 12th at 6pm for our monthly PTO Meeting! We look forward to seeing you there.
Mrs. Bratcher will be available for a Meet and Greet immediately following the PTO meeting. We especially invite the parents of 2nd-5th grade to come and meet Mrs. Bratcher.
If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know!
-Amy Malinowski
Welcome, Mrs. Bratcher!
We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Marina Bratcher to Our Mother of Mercy! She will be the 2nd & 3rd Grade homeroom teacher. Mrs. Bratcher brings with her a wealth of knowledge and a passion for teaching that will be a great asset to our students at Our Mother of Mercy. Please read below to learn about her background and her philosophy of education:
Marina Bratcher is the oldest of four children, born and raised in Sacramento, California. She is family oriented and Catholic. She is happily married with two boys ages, four and two.
Marina is on her fourth year teaching. She is an alumnus of Saint Mary’s College of California, where she received a B.A.in Liberal and Civic Studies and a minor in Spanish. During her time there, she committed herself to school, work, and volunteering. She was a Bonner Leader (an Americorp program) for three years, where she helped to coordinate and organize volunteer opportunities and trained and recruited student leaders. She worked/volunteered for three years at Saint Anthony’s Foundation in the San Francisco Tenderloin, feeding the hungry. She also participated in the Christian Service Internship, which was completed in Providence, Rhode Island, working with grades fourth and fifth. Education has always been Marina’s passion, therefore, she volunteered at an elementary school in Concord, California tutoring grades third through sixth and organizing and running the garden for the students. Marina helped to start an ESL program at the college to allow employees an opportunity to learn English.
Upon graduating, Marina worked as an 8th grade Math Teacher in Oakland. She taught Geometry at Cristo Rey High School in Sacramento and at a charter school in Stockton California. In 2012, Marina completed a Master’s in Teaching at University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She continues to pursue her education career while teaching.
Marina’s goal for all students, is to apply math skills to everyday life, think critically, to speak mathematically, working collaboratively and becoming independent thinkers, and enjoy learning math. Marina will encourage a respectful learning environment. Marina will motivate all students using their strengths and skills to improve confidence and areas in which they struggle. Marina believes all students are “children of God” and each is unique. She will teach and care for her students as if they are her own and hold high expectations for each.
Marina is very excited about joining the Our Mother of Mercy community and looks forward to meeting each of you.
