MStep continues...

Congrats to the 5th grade crew as they have finished the English/Language Arts MStep, the first of four MStep tests. Our 3rd & 4th graders will begin testing this week.

Please avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during these testing windows. Absent students will be required to take make-up tests on alternate dates, missing classroom instruction. We appreciate your support.

Optional COVID testing now available at the ESC

The District is now offering optional COVID testing to our staff, students, and parents. Both Rapid and PCR tests are available. The testing will take place at the Educational Services Center (850 Ladd Road, Building D Walled Lake, MI 48390) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2-7 p.m.

The COVID testing staff, provided by a third party, will be responsible for letting people in the side door on the south side of the building.

· If you have insurance, your insurance provider will be billed.

· If you do not have insurance, there is a cost of $110.00 for a PCR test and $50.00 for a rapid test - This comes as a result of the Federal Government no longer providing funding for testing.

There will be signage placed both inside and outside of the building. To set up an appointment for testing, please complete this requisition form.

Placement for the 2022-2023 School Year

Placement of children for the next school year is a team process. The classroom teachers, special area teachers, and I meet to consider the best placement for every child. Many aspects of a child’s development – academic, emotional, and social are very carefully considered. Because we view the process as so important, our staff will invest many hours to ensure the very best placement decisions. The staff working with your child has learned a great deal about his or her learning style, strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth. In addition to individual needs, we also consider the balance of each classroom, so that optimal learning environments are created for all children.

While it is never appropriate to request a specific teacher, if there is important information you wish to convey regarding your child’s learning needs, I welcome you to submit the Google form linked below by Monday, May 2nd.

I understand that this is a sensitive issue. In fairness to all children and staff members, please trust in us to handle placement with the care and sensitivity that is necessary for these important decisions.

Construction Update

Beginning this week, renovations will begin on two of our large/gang bathrooms (one boys and one girls) located in the middle hallway. We are fortunate to have individual bathrooms in several classrooms along with another set of large/gang bathrooms (one boys and one girls) allowing for plenty of options for students needing to use the restroom throughout the day. The work will be happening during after school hours.

Scope of work:

  • New lighting throughout the building
  • Media Center renovation
  • Gymnasium addition
  • Restroom upgrades/improvements
  • New carpet throughout
  • New Roof
  • Entrance Canopy Modifications
  • Security Upgrades
  • Network Upgrades
  • Cafeteria Renovations (current gymnasium will be the new cafeteria)
  • Music Room Renovations (the current cafeteria will be the new music room)
