Northpoint Newsletter Dec. 2016
National Blue Ribbon School, 2010 and 2016, Four Star School
A Note from the Principal
Students in grade 2nd-5th are finishing up Acuity testing. Acuity testing is a formative tool we utilize in PHM to help us plan for meaningful instruction. It is like a road map, showing us where we are and where we need to go. We are also continuing testing our K, second, and fifth grade students for high ability. Children in these grades are screened using the NWEA. From there, students who scored at a certain level will be tested using the CoGAT test to help with the identification process. Further testing of students in grades first, third, and fourth will occur in spring.
Science Expo and Science Night is just around the corner. Winter break is always a great time to prepare for this. This year it will be held on Jan. 26th, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Should you have any questions, please email your child's teacher.
Our snow make-up day is scheduled for March 24th. Please be sure to mark your calendars. I have heard this is going to be a very cold and snowy winter, so we are prepared for more closings. Each family should have received information regarding eLearning. All children are required to do the work for these days, should school be closed for the weather. This is done instead of adding on days at the end of the school year. After the snow day, all work is do five days later. I encourage students to turn it in as soon as possible. The work is scored and inputted by teachers. If you have questions during snow days, your child's teacher is available by email during school hours. You may also email me.
February will bring the first round of ISTEP for our third, fourth, and fifth grade students. The testing window is Feb. 27th- March 10th. Our third grade students will then take the state test IRead during the week of March 10th. We do need all students here during the testing window. Please mark these days on your calendar.
Thank you for everyone who attended our community night for the Blue Ribbon. It was so fun to gather as a community and spend time together celebrating.
I continuously am in awe of our school, the amazing teachers, students, staff, and parents that give 100% for our students' education. Thank you for the partnership in learning.
Sincerely,
Diane Wirth
