Bay Creek Beat

May 11, 2016

Greetings Parents!

This will be the final Bay Creek Beat for the 2015 – 2016 school year. It has been a great year for Bay Creek and I know everyone is looking forward to a great summer. I will send home a letter with report cards that will detail additional information regarding summer reading, registration for the 2016-2017 school year, and open house dates. However, before we say goodbye to this year, there are several important items that need your attention.

As you may have heard, the Georgia Board of Education has waived the Milestones test as a part of 2016 State promotion requirements for grades 3, 5, and 8.

With this information in mind, Gwinnett County Public Schools has updated the promotion criteria for ALL Middle School grades (6, 7, 8), and we will NOT be using Milestones test results for any students at the middle school level. Summer school will be held at Bay Creek for any student not meeting promotion criteria from June 7th – June 30th. The GCPS revised promotion criteria for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades can be found below:

Sixth Grade

No changes

Students must pass 5 out of 6 classes each semester. Language Arts and Math MUST be two of the five classes passed.

Seventh Grade

This is a change!

Students must pass 5 out of 6 classes each semester. Language Arts and Math MUST be two of the five classes passed.

Eighth Grade

This is a change!

Students must pass 5 out of 6 classes each semester. Language Arts and Math MUST be two of the five classes passed.

If your child's promotion is impacted by this GCPS Promotion Criteria revision, one of your child's teachers will be in touch with you to discuss summer school or retention options.

Final Exams

All students will be taking final exams in their academic classes on Monday, May 23rd

and Tuesday, May 24th. Final exams cannot be taken early. If your child misses a final exam, they can make up the exam on the last day of school. Teachers will be finalizing grades on May 24th by 5:00 pm, so any missing final exams will be entered in as zeros if the exam has not been made up by 5:00 pm May 25th. Final exams count as 10% of the overall grade for the semester.

It's here ! It's here ! The Spring Bookfair is here. And every team, every student is coming by. It runs Wednesday, May 11th through the night of Monday, May 16th. We have funny, we have scary, we have the newest titles AND we have their summer reading titles. So ask you student what they are looking for. Also, you, as the parent, are ALWAYS welcome to stop by and look yourselves. We have an adult section for titles you may like, and your very own section of coloring books.

Looking forward to see you, and your student.

Bay Creek Communication Tools

If you are looking for ways to locate updates and upcoming events at Bay Creek, there are several different ways we communicate with parents. Please refer to the list below. As the district has moved to the eCLASS platform, teachers no longer have individual webpages. Parental access to eClass is not yet available; therefore we encourage parents to log into their child’s eCLASS page and review homework and upcoming classroom assignments.
