Classroom Assessment
Classroom assessment is formative assessment FOR learning.
Classroom assessment is used for
Planning & evaluating instruction
Clarifying learning
Giving specific, descriptive feedback
Self & peer assessment processes
Monitoring progress and setting goals
Classroom assessment should be formative FOR learning. Classroom assessments help drive instruction by helping you decide what needs to be planned and implemented next. It will help guide what content needs to be reviewed and assist in student goal setting. Classroom Assessment should be quick and easy to determine how students are learning. It can be recorded in an assessment matrix. Classroom assessment can give you an idea of how the whole class or individual students are learning.
Here are some examples of “whole” classroom assessment techniques:
Four Corners - students move to different parts of the room according to assigned answers and you graph percentages or numbers of how students answered.
Fist to Five - students hold up a number to show levels of understanding
Kahoot - an online tool (devices needed) to give quizzes
Plickers - an online tool (only 1 teacher device needed) to give quizzes. Students use a special QR card to show answers.
Here are some examples of “individual” classroom assessment techniques:
Muddiest Point - at the end of a lesson students write the muddiest point in the lesson. It provides quick feedback on what students find most confusing.
3-2-1 - Students write three things they learned in the lesson, two things they found interesting or want to learn more about, and one question they have about the lesson.
Padlet - An online “sticky” note board.
Building Stamina - Once you give a task - allow yourself to be off limits for at least 5-15 minutes - depending on your grade level. Let your students problem solve...
