Methamphetamine

Crystal Meth is a stimulant drug that is extremely addictive. It comes in the form of a white, crystal like, powder has no odor and a bitter taste. Meth can be taken in several different ways such as; orally, smocked, snorted, dissolved, and shot, the fastest way to deliver it to the brain is by smoking and shooting it. One can easily become addicted to meth because the affects fade away very quickly making one want to take more and more and more.

Statistics

A study shows that about 13 million people over the age of twelve have used meth, and about 529,000 are regular users. In the United States about 8.6% of high schooler's have used meth at some point in their life (4.5% seniors, 4.1%sophomores). Also in the United States drug treatment tripled from 3% in 1996 to 9% in 2006).

Effects and Consequences

Short Term: Some short effects are the loss of appetite, pupil dilation, disturbed sleep, nausea, and hallucinations.

Long term: Some long term effects are liver/kidney problems, depression, malnutrition, permanent damage to body parts, and possible death/stroke.


Legal Consequences: The consequences of meth are becoming more and more strict, if you have possession could result in a fine anywhere from 1,000 to 500,000 dollars depending on the amount in your possession and jail time could be anywhere from less than one year to over 20. If you are found selling meth the fine could be in a range of 5,000 to 1,000,000 dollars and jail time could increase.

Social Consequences: A very common social effect of meth is meth mouth and the way one looks physically. Isolation from family and friends as well as the social stigma around someone who uses and abuses meth.
