Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
· Set the example. Let children see you read.
· Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up with changing tastes and reading skills.
· Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
Book Fair dates: [September 26th – October 3rd, 2017]
Shopping hours: [Students will shop during their assigned Media center time. The Book Fair will also be open from 7:30 am-8:30 am for students to shop with a parent]
Special activities: [Open House beginning at 6pm]
If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at
http://www.scholastic.com/bf/pontiacelementaryschool1 . You can also use that link to volunteer as well!
Our Online Fair is available from [September 21st, 2017] to [October 4th 2017].
We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Sincerely,
Katie Barber
Clear Plastic Bottles Needed
The art teacher, Miss Reynolds, is collecting clear bottles for an art project she is doing this year. She is taking any sizes except for the mini ones. There will be a bin outside of her classroom so that you can drop them off at anytime! She will be collecting them through September so please keep them coming!
Pontiac Chorus
School Improvement Council
Parents and Community Members,
Our first SIC meeting is Thursday, September 21st at 7:45 am. We will be looking to elect new members and begin discussing our focus for the year. If you're interested in becoming a member or serving as an officer, please attend our meeting. Meetings are on the third Thursday of each month at 7:45. Please email me (trobinson@richland2.org) if you have questions.
SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH
Parents,
Good attendance helps kids succeed in school and bolster their self-esteem. Improving attendance requires a comprehensive approach that goes beyond sanctions and includes incentives. September is our Attendance Awareness Month. We are challenging each student to be present every day because Attendance Matters. On Friday we are encouraging all the students to be present at Pontiac Elementary (if they are not sick). Any class with perfect attendance on Friday, September 15, 2017 we will celebrate schoolwide with a popcorn party at a later date. Please help us to encourage your child to be here everyday. We are encouraging and challenging our students to Be Proactive by attending school regularly and Put First Things First by coming to school to work hard and play later.
Thanks for all that you do. If you have any questions please feel free to call me.
Sincerely,
Janice Watson
