Religion and the Government

By Tyler Roush

Reasoning Behind Topic

Religion is an difficult topic to address sometimes, especially when its put in to government. My reasoning behind the choosing of this topic is that, one, I found it interesting, and two, its a pressing problem in todays world. Its especially hard on those who are Muslim or are worshiping the islamic faith.

Why Its Important

Its important to understand religion as well as our government. Why? Well, say you want to run for president or speaker of the house. Anything along those lines. You will often times get asked what are we going to do about religious groups and what not. Now a days its all about how muslims are bad people and that their religion makes people kill one another. Of corse most of it is not true, nor is it false either. Us Christians don't have much room to talk either. The Bible tells of mass genocide to be enacted upon the nonbelievers. My Proof.

1 Samuel 27:8-9:

"And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites ... And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel. And David saved neither man nor woman alive"

More Evidence

Here is some more evidence of acts of mass murder in the Bible

Exodus 12:29-30:

"And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead."

2 Kings 2:23-24:

"And he [Elisha] went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them."

Why we Have Separation of Church and State

Its important to have separation of church and state because it keeps our religious freedoms that have been preserved for more then 300 years. Our Founders knew that mixing religion and government only caused civil strife, inequality and very often violence in pluralistic societies. And thanks to advocates for the separation of church and state, Americans are enjoying more religious freedoms then any people in the world.
